"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked his voice calm and reassuring.
"No," Ashley said, wiping away the tears that had gathered in her eyes, not using the hand that was throbbing, before they fell. She wanted to talk to Trinity, but she and Nico had decided to ride with Rose and Grace.
"Ash, can I ask you a question?" Ashley nodded, turning to face him. "At the pizzeria, you yelled at the waitress for nearly kissing me, why?" Ashley watched him as his eyes stayed fixated on the road. He sent her a glance and a small smile.
"I don't know I guess I saw how you didn't want to and just wanted to help you," she said, looking away.
"You're a terrible liar," Ashley raised an eyebrow at him but stayed silent. "How about tomorrow, we go out for the day? Just me and you," Reese said after a few minutes silence
Ashley thought for a second, she had no reason not to.
"Sure," she smiled weakly when he snapped her head around to her, a shocked expression plastered to his face. He quickly faced the road once more, a smile playing on his lips as he nodded slowly. "How do you know Dustin?" She asked, as they turned onto the dirt road.
"We have some... history," he said with a pause, Ashley nodded. She climbed out of the car, cradling her hand, wincing when the finger of her good hand brushed her bruised knuckle. "C'mon, let's get that hand of yours checked out." Ashley nodded and followed Reese out of the garage into the house. After five minutes of walking they stopped outside a door. Without bothering to knock Reese just opened the door, gently guiding Ashley into the room by her shoulder. She was instantly met with white, just white. The curtains were white, the floor was white, everything was white. "Doc?" Reese called into the empty room. An elderly man in a white overcoat came into the room via a side door.
"Reese?" The man asked in a husky voice. "And who's this young lady?" He asked, his eyes scanning Ashley.
"This is Ashley," the man gave a slow nod. "She hit her hand on the floor," Reese said, he grabbed Ashley's wrist holding up her hand, which still was held into a fist.
"When you say hit..." The man trailed, off stepping forward and holding her wounded hand in his own.
"Well, punched," Reese said, sending Ashley a glance when she hissed in pain.
"Flex your fingers for me dear," Ashley tried to move her fingers but they seemed frozen.
"I can't," she said quietly, wishing he would let go of her hand.
"This might hurt a little, dear," Ashley knitted her eyebrows together in confusion. She had to bite her tongue so she didn't scream while the man straightened out her fingers. "Now try," she softly flexed her fingers. It hurt a little at first but the pain died down. "Okay, it doesn't look like anything's broken but there will be severe bruising." He said, addressing Reese.
"Thanks doc," Reese said with a grateful smile.
"Anytime," he said, dropping Ashley's hand.
"Let's go eat our pizza before it becomes too cold," Reese said, Ashley nodded. The day had passed so quickly that she barely had time to take it all in. she checked her phone, frowning when she saw how late it was getting. She would have to go to bed within the next three hours, and quite frankly, she was scared to.
As the sky darkened Ashley tried to make up excuses for having to stay up, but slowly the group drifted off, up to the comfort of their beds.
