Oscar:
"Cat wait!", I scream running after her. I start climbing the first steps of the staircase when a hand grabs my arm and pulls me back down. "What?", I bark angrily at the person holding my arm.
"Let her go, let this cool down for a bit, Oscar", Ash says firmly. I yank my arm from her grip.
"Stay away from this, Ash", I mutter before moving towards the stairs again.
"You're just going to scare her away", she says.
"You know nothing about her", I huff. "She's Cat, she's not afraid of anything", I add.
"I know she's afraid of compromises, and of getting emotionally attached to someone just to lose them again", she says confidently. I sigh debating my options.
"Still, this is none of your business", I say attempting to go up the stairs, again, but she stops me, again.
"It kind of is when it affects the mental state of two of the best hunters in the community", she says to which I roll my eyes "and I know both of you quite well. What happened? What did you do, Oscar?", she asks accusingly.
"Why do you just assume it was my fault?", I ask offended.
"Well, for starters she left suddenly when you tried to kiss her, you where the one to find her this morning, you were acting more possessive with her than usual, and clearly something happened earlier between you two that you somehow forgot to mention", she says, and I can't believe she noticed all of those things, but I keep a straight face.
"Is it that weird that I want to spend time with my girlfriend?" I asks rhetorically, but only after the words leave my mouth I realize of the mistake I've made.
"Oscar, she's not your girlfriend anymore, get over it", she says with an expression I can't quite name, sort of anger and pity.
"Yeah but that's gonna change", I mutter. Ash sighs.
"Does she want that to change?", she asks, confusing me.
"No but-", I start answering but she cuts me off.
"Then that's it, get over it, get a girlfriend if that's what you want, I know some of the girls would be interested", she says in a careless attitude.
"I don't want a girlfriend, I want my girlfriend, I want my Cat. And I'm going to do everything in my power to get her", I say confident.
"Careful with that attitude, you know as well as I do that she doesn't like it", she warns me.
"Then what am I supposed to do according to you?" I ask sarcastically crossing my arms over my chest.
"What did she asked you to do when you broke up?" she questions, ignoring the tone in my previous question.
"To give her time", I shrug.
"Exactly, let her decide when you can go back together, don't pressure her", she says moving towards the kitchen.
"It's been three months, don't you think she's had more than enough time to think?", I say irritated as I follow her.
"If you don't have enough patience to wait for her then forget about her. I'm just saying that if you pressure her too much, your entire relationship is going to go down the drain", she warns, taking me back.
"You think?", I ask worried. She nods. "I should go apologize", I say, walking towards the stairs.
"No, nope, that's not going to help right now", she says reaching towards me.
"So... what should I do?", I ask seriously this time.
"First you need to tell me what has happened, what happened this morning, because something else happened, right?", she says sitting at the dining table.
"How exactly do you see these things so easily?", I ask confuse at how she reads me every time.
"When you brought her in you were carrying her. You went directly to the roof, which is where you'd usually meet whenever you'd have a date back when you were dating. She was pretty relaxed in your arms and quite reluctant to let go of you, and when Sasha came to pet her like she always does, you pulled her closer to you", she explains. "Although with all of that I'd say that she thought you were still together. She was very tired and didn't even answer any of the questions, you did that"
"You really think she forgot we broke up three months ago?", I ask, not really believing the possibility.
"At the very least she was testing if it'd be a good idea for you to go back together. But I wouldn't confront her about it if I were you, she might not even remember it", she suggests.
"If she was testing, do you think I passed?", I ask with a nervous smile while fidgeting with my thumbs. She glares at me, crossing her four arms over her chest.
"Honestly? No. You ruined your chances when you tried to kiss her. Unless...", she drifts off thoughtfully while tapping her bottom lip with her index finger.
"Unless what? Tell me if you think I still have a chance, Ash, please!", I say desperately hitting the table.
"Well, it really depends, what happened exactly when you found her?", she asks. She then pats the table, telling me to sit there. I sigh, defeated in my stubbornness, but I'm not exactly known for that anyways, and sit at the table in front of her.
"I told you earlier, I found her and got her here to make sure she hadn't gotten hurt", I explain annoyed.
"And I told you that I know that isn't all that happen", she says looking at me with angry blue eyes, "The details, sweetheart. That's what I'm looking for", she states leaning back on her chair.
So I have no other choice than to tell her everything. Including about our past, past relationship and how it ended, bringing back a lot of bitter feelings to the surface. She keeps a straight face and her mouth shut except when she occasionally asks for more details, despite my face of discomfort and nostalgia throughout the entire conversation.
"So... what do you think now?", I ask, looking at her face as she tries to click the pieces of the puzzle together.
"I think that...", she stops with a sigh, passing a hand over her stressed face. "I think that you should really take your entire relationship in mind, not only the romantic part, but rather how it grew into the big, complicated mess it is right now. You've known each other for literally all your life, you grew up together! In other words, colder words, you're all she has left of your village and childhood, just like she's all you've got left of it, even if you don't realize it. To add up to this there is the fact that two of her best friends ever were your siblings, who were both killed in front of her eyes and she clearly feels guilty about it. She's not going to stop hanging out with you due to all you signify to her, but I'm not sure starting a romantic relationship with her right now is the best idea. You should really question yourself if you really love her or if you're just attached to what she represents to you", she says and I'm amazed at how her words can sound that wise even though she's not more than ten years older than me.
"I love her, I know that!", I exclaim without a second thought.
"Oscar, love is a strong word, I'm sure you do but, is it really on a romantic level or friendship?", she says with a frown. I look down speechless, I'm not sure anymore. "Think about it, give yourself time", she says standing up and walking towards the kitchen, leaving me with my thoughts.
