Maybe she locked Harry in a cupboard because every time she looked at him, she saw her sisters eyes, and is greatly pained, for her sister died thinking that she hated her.
Maybe she wanted to squish out the magic of Harry, because she didn't want him to be brutally murdered like Lily, for Harry is all she had left of Lily.
Maybe she was taking out her emotions on Harry, because sometimes, she when she saw Lily in him, she had to remind herself that her sister was dead.
Maybe she pretended that Lily didn't exist because it was easier to deal with the pain that way.
Maybe she cried herself to sleep at night for hurting Harry, because she saw her sister in him.
Maybe she didn't want Harry to die because if he did, she would never see her sisters eyes again. Ever.
Maybe, and just maybe, when Petunia Dursley died, she was all smiles, for she would see her sister once more.
