33. Date Night Extended

Manik and Nandini, after their date, are now in the parking lot of the restaurant. Manik's excitement was doubled when he was given a box full of his favorite chocolates. Nandu unlocked her car and was about to get in to drive when Manik stops her. He hopefully looks at her, the look he gives her when he has to get something done from her. Suppressing her urge to smile, Nandu gets ready to listen to some of his crazy ideas.

Nandu: Speak.

Manik(excited): Can I wish for something to make this day extra special?

Nandu(teases): Aur kitna special chahiye tumhe? One more box of chocolates?

Manik shakes his head and smiles softly.

Manik: Can we go to the lake?

Nandu(surprised): Lake kyu?

He looks into her eyes and confesses.

Manik: That's the place where I always get to see my Nandu without any facades. My real Nandu.

Nandu nods with a smile. Soon, they reach the lake. She removes her heels and keeps it inside the car before moving out.

Manik(frowns): Why did you remove your shoes?

Nandu: Shoes nahi heels. I can't walk with those heels on these stones, right?

She says, as a matter of fact, making the frown on Manik's face wider.

Manik(disbelievingly): So, you are planning to walk barefoot?

Nandu(casually): Manik, I haven't planned for this so, I don't have an extra pair of shoes.

Manik scoops her in his arms making her squeal.

Nandu: Manik, it's not required. Put me down.

Manik(glares playfully): Don't even think of stepping down. Just stay quiet and let me concentrate on the path.

She wraps her hands around his neck. Manik puts her down after reaching the lake and settles beside her. After moments of silence, Manik breaks it by asking the question that was troubling him since hours.

Manik: Nandu, what's the difference between yesterday and today? You were not sure yesterday about confessing it to me and aaj tumne bol diya?

Nandu(shrugs): Acceptance. I don't know what uncle would think about us being in a relationship. I wanted to ask him first instead of giving you hopes and breaking your heart later.

Manik(surprised): Dad ko bata diya tumne?

Nandu: Haan and he is more excited than you. I was surprised by his reaction.

She chuckles imagining Raj's reaction. Manik smiles at her.

Manik: He loves you so much.

Nandu turns her gaze from the lake to Manik.

Nandu: He loves you too. He was so proud of your book. He had tears looking at your pen name.

Manik: Tumne yeh bhi bata diya?

Nandu(hesitatingly): I had to before asking for his permission. I am sorry for not asking you before.

Manik assures her rather casually, contrasting to the burst out expected by Nandu.

Manik: That's fine. I was confused about how to tell him and you made it easy. How can you sort everything out for me?

She mirrored the longing look, on his face for her, for him.
