Jungkook—
I was trying to hide the obvious trembling from Taehyung, as he let us into his gigantic house, and yelled a hearty "I'm home!" Who'd have thought that meeting Kim Taehyung's parents would send the Jeon Jungkook in a sweating frenzy? It's not like I was scared that his parents would reject me, and demand for me to leave their house, which actually might be plausible, but I digress. What scared me was the fact that I was meeting the people who had paid for my tuition, and I haven't done shit to repay them in any way. Of course I was starting to look for jobs that could perhaps help take off a bit of the weight of the loan. But what high paying job is going to let a college student nobody apply for a position?
Taehyung turned his head around to make sure that I was following, and when he found that I was not, he pouted playfully, and reached over to grab my wrist. "Come on, Kookie!" He whined, pulling me behind his smaller frame. "Don't worry, my parents aren't evil people," the elder assured, cheerfully. "That's not what I was worrying about," I muttered, under my breath. "What was that?" The blonde asked, as he dragged me down the long, extravagant, halls, and down to a huge room, I assumed was the living room. "Nothing," I replied, quietly. Taehyung glanced back at me for a moment, frowning, but whipped his head back to around. "You'll tell me when you're ready, right?" He asked, softly.
A small smile flickered on my lips, and I ducked my gaze to our feet. "Yeah. Sure."
"That's all I care about then," the elder cheered, and skipped into the living room, pulling me down, to sit next to him on a plushy couch. "Hello Mother and Father!" Taehyung greeted his parents, grinning widely, so that his cute box smile showed through. I felt the corners of my lips curling up, despite myself. The elder's enthusiasm was contagious.
After Taehyung exchanged hugs with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kim directed their eyes onto me, causing my skin to squirm uncomfortably. How will they react to me being here? Technically, I wasn't on the invite list to the Kim's Fun Winter Holiday Extravaganza, so my being here wasn't even supposed to happen.
Luckily, Mrs. Kim only smiled widely, and opened her arms to embrace me in a warm hug. "You must be Jeon Jungkook, correct?" I pulled away, with a polite smile, and nodded. "Yes. My name is Jeon Jungkook, and I'm honored to be allowed to stay for the winter break." Mr. Kim raised his hand, and clasped it with mine, pulling me into a half hug. "We were very excited when Taehyung told us that he'd be bringing you home with him," Mr. Kim chuckled, settling back into his seat. "Well, I was very nervous to meet you," I admitted, raising a sheepish hand to the back of my neck. Mrs. Kim tilted her head, and frowned playfully. "Nervous to meet us? You make it sound like Tae Tae brought you home to announce that you two are dating."
Taehyung threw his arms out, indignantly, and gave an accusing look to his mother, with his mouth gaping open; offended. "Mother, I swear to god, can you keep those kinds of thoughts to yourself please?" Mrs. Kim only shrugged her dainty shoulders, a coy expression in her eyes. "Whatever you say, son." The blonde huffed, and slouched into the couch, with an adorable pout on his face. Mr. Kim chuckled, and reached over to ruffle his son's hair. "Why don't you two go upstairs and put your things away? We'll call you down to set up the tree, in a few minutes."
Taehyung nodded, and sprang up on his feet, making sure to grab my arm, and yank me up right after. "Come on, Kookie," the elder sang, picking up his bags. "You'll be sleeping in the guest room across from my own." I nodded, taking the straps of my duffel bag, and slinging them over my shoulder. I let the elder direct me up the stairs, and down a hallway, where there was a wall that had a constant cascade of water running down from the ceiling. My eyes lingered on the wall, for a bit, staring at how the changing colored LED lights reflected off of the clear running water. Is this what rich people do, as renovating? Are they too busy with work, that they can't afford to go out, so they bring a waterfall to their house, instead?
The blonde stopped walking, when he realized that I wasn't following. "Oh. That. Cool, huh? My parents just got that installed last month. This is the first time, I'm seeing it, too." I turned my head, to stare at the elder, blankly. "You guys have so much money to spare. I knew you were rich, but I never knew you were this rich." Taehyung wrinkled his nose, to create a sour expression. "My parents are rich. I'm just their spoiled only son. There's a difference, Kookie."
I shrugged my shoulders, "I wouldn't know, Tae." The elder's expression softened, and he padded back to me, to take my hand. "Come on, let's get you situated." Nodding, I let him pull me down the hall, and stop at a dark wooden door. He opened it to reveal a softly painted gray room with black and white accents, and a dark gray bed to contrast. My eyes roamed around the pretty area, taking everything in. So this is this the kind of place Taehyung was raised in. A place filled with luxury and leisure. He probably got all the toys he wanted when he was a child. He probably got haircuts by professional stylists, and his clothes were all from designer brands. He was probably very loved.
Taehyung patted my shoulder, lightly. "I'll be across the hall if you need me, Kookie," he called over his shoulder, as he walked out the guest room, and entered his own. I stared at his door from where I stood. It was slightly open, a crack, so that I couldn't see the contents within, but I knew I was invited to enter anytime. The gesture itself made my heart melt, but I immediately chastised myself. I couldn't be feeling this way towards the elder. Not when my emotions could be the reason to why he might get hurt. I'd rather kill myself than be the reason to how the blonde was harmed. I wasn't going to be the reason to why he's in danger. Honestly, I shouldn't have even let him bring me here, in the first place.
What if my father managed to find me, and now he knows who Taehyung's parents are, and where they live? I could be endangering the whole family by just staying here. God, why am I so stupid? I let my duffel bag slide off of my shoulder, and hit the ground with an angry thud. Maybe it's not too late to run away. Maybe it's not too late to leave this all behind and disappear.
Despite everything, my feet stayed rooted to the where I stood. As if my body didn't want to respond to my mind anymore. No matter how much I wanted to leave in that moment, there was something holding me back. Frustrated with myself, I raked my fingers through my hair, groaning, softly, in frustration. What was wrong with me? What's stopping me from going? Just what exactly?
"Jungkook, are you okay?"
My head whipped around at the sound of Taehyung's deep voice. "Yeah...now I am...kind of," I murmured, almost to myself. The elder's eyes softened, and he crossed the distance between us, to wrap his arms around my neck, and nestle his chin on my shoulder. "Don't worry about your dad okay? You'll be fine. It'll all be fine. Okay? Don't worry. For now, just enjoy the break." I nodded, eyes roaming up from the Taehyung's blonde locks to the red walls in his room.
Red.
That's not such a bad idea at the moment.
"Hyung, I want to get my hair dyed."
