The sweetest song I have ever heard,
was the gentle hum of a mockingbird.
The purest of lyrics,
the deepest of charms.
Like the clearest of rivers,
and most soothing of balms. But what if the song is a poison,
and the hum is a lie.
Will the lyrics curl up, then shrivel and die?
No doubt the charms are deceiving,
the sweet lullaby running dry.
What if the rivers are empty,
filled with nothing but wearied cries?
With what do we wipe away the burn of not believing,
if the balm is in fact not relieving? The sweetest of songs, the cleverest of lies.
Who can tell the difference?
They are both woven with weary, watery eyes.
