I wake up and feel cold. Tobias's isn't there. Where could he be? I find a note on the nightstand.
I went to get breakfast, I'll be back soon. I love you.
IV
I smile at the note. I get out if bed and change into ripped, dark, skinny jeans and a tight black shirt that shows my tattoos. I go to the bathroom and put my hair in a high ponytail. I apply some lip gloss and mascara. I find some black flats and slip them on. Then I make the bed and sit on the couch just as Tobias walks in. We sit at the kitchen table and talk wile eating our breakfast; Dauntless cake.
"You slept really late," Tobias says.
"I guess I was tired," I say.
"Getting over the red lipstick fetish I see," he says with a chuckle. I laugh a little, too.
"Well Chris gave me all that make up might as well us it right?" I say. He shrugs. We finish our "breakfast" and head to the Pit. "I bored," I whine. He chuckles.
"Well what do you want to do?" He asks.
"I don't know," I say.
"Tris, you're birthday's tomorrow," he says.
"Oh ya!" I exclaim. "I've never had a birthday party."
"We should go to the Ferris wheel," he says.
"Okay!" I exclaim. We run to the train and hop in. We get to the Ferris wheel soon. We hop out and I grab one of the rungs of the ladder. I start to climb with Tobias right behind me. I get near the platform but the rung underneath me falls off. Tobias picks me up off the ladder and puts me on another part. We climb down. "That was awesome," I say, laughing. He gives me a look like I'm crazy.
"You almost died!" He exclaims.
"Ya, but I didn't," I say. He shrugs. We go back to the compound. When we get there we jump together. I laugh when we hit the net. "It's more fun every time," I say. We get out of the net and go to the Pit. There stands Peter.
"Hey, Stiff." He says. I just walk past him, bumping his shoulder. "Aww, someone has a grudge," he says, sticking out his lower lip. I roll my eyes and continue walking. He grabs me from behind and holds a butter knife to my eye. I stand in shock. What did I ever do to him? I think. Tobias steps closer to me. "Take another step toward her and she loses an eye." Peter says. Tobias pulls out a gun, it's a good thing he brings one everywhere he goes. He shoots Peters shoulder, he wasn't fast enough to stab me. Tobias grabs my arm and we run back to our apartment.
"This is what it's like to have enemies, huh?" I say.
"In Dauntless? Ya," he says. I sigh.
"Sometimes I wonder, if I really made the right choice. I mean, I'm happy. I have you, you don't know how grateful I am, but it just seems like I don't belong anywhere." I say.
"Tris, you belong here perfectly. You are more Dauntless than most of the people here," he says. I kiss him.
"Thank you, for everything," I say.
"It's no problem," he says.
"I love you," I say.
"I love you, too," he says. We sit on the couch. I have to know if he's Divergent. He's never specified and it's really important. I put my mouth to his ear.
"Are you Divergent?" I whisper as quietly as possible, almost inaudible.
"Yes," he whispers back. Excitement runs through me. I kiss him. I pull back and smile.
"You don't know how happy that makes me," I say, kissing him again. I pull back, then yawn. "I'm going to shower," I say. I walk to the bathroom and grab one of Tobias's shirts on the way, and new undergarments. I shower and put on the clothes I grabbed. I lay on the bed as Tobias showers. He comes out and lays next to me, wrapping his arms around me. I bury my face in his chest and fall asleep.
