VISION - THE VISION
July 16th, 2017, Unknown
The stone is pulsating more than usual today. Great waves of pain emerge from the vibrating waves and beating it produces. The crown of my head and the entirety of my brow and bridge of my nose aches in tremendous torture. No amount of human drugs could heal the storm in my mind.
"Vis?" Wanda's soothing voice seems to dull the agony for a few seconds. I take her hand in mine.
"It seems to be speaking to me once again. I do not understand, Wanda." Whispers, unintelligible whispers, plague my head along with the pain. It is not a pleasant combination, but being with Wanda helps it. Her presence is the temporary solution—something I am grateful for but frustrated at. I should be protecting her.
She offers me a smile as she squeezes our interlaced fingers, a smile so genuine it almost lights up the small, bleak room. "There are things even you can't understand. What do you think it says to you?"
Bringing my free hand to the dreaded stone, I brush over it lightly with my fingers. The pain neither worsens or betters at my touch, and the clatter does not chime down or completely deafen. "I am not sure. The voices are incoherent and unearthly, but they are not condescending or disturbing. I feel as if they are giving me advice, or constructive criticism. Something of the sort."
Wanda's eyes glow a bright crimson as she raises her arm. A vine-like wave the color of roses sprouts from her palm as Wanda wraps her magic around the stone's. I close my eyes. The aching in my body lessens, and the whispers cease. She absorbs the stone for a few more seconds before dropping her hand.
"Wanda? Are you alright?"
Her turquoise eyes are wide. Drops of sweat shimmer on her beautiful face. Wanda nods, "I'm fine. That was... A lot to handle." There's a certain tenderness to her expression that wrenches my heart open.
"Do you need a drink of water?"
She nods again. "I'll be right back," She leans over and plants a feathery kiss on my cheek. The place where her lips left their mark almost seems to hurt less.
I close my eyes and touch the infinity stone again, trying to focus on what the whispers are saying and push through the pain. Suddenly, a searing pulse surprises me. It stings so badly I almost fall out of my chair, but I cannot and do not—in fear of Wanda exerting herself for my sake. It is like a bolt of lightning has split my hippocampus in half.
With the agonizing lightning strike, I hear one whisper that is clear. It says something that has haunted my shadow ever since Wanda and I have gone into hiding.
Run.
This may or may not be foreshadowing for Infinity War, (which is a long way off in the timeline of this story, but still. Hehe.)
I'm laughing through the pain.
Get ready for the next chapter! I promise it won't be as painful. :)
