Bakugo Katsuki x Reader

"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." - Oprah Winfrey

This wasn't really a fluky day for (Y/N). The news she had just received this morning really dropped her mood. Looking sadly at her phone, she sighed and closed it as she proceeded walking with her bento in hand.

I'm so sorry, (Y/N) but my flight was cancelled due to an unexpected meeting. There was a mishap in the company and it would take time to fix it. I probably won't be able to come home this month, sadly but please know that your mom and I are trying our best. Happy Birthday, darling. We are so sorry.

- Dad

Great. She was celebrating her birthday on her own again. How fantastic.

She didn't even bother buying herself a cake or something you're supposed to buy for this kind of event. No one knew it was her birthday anyway, so what was the point?

A certain boy with buttermilk hair was trying to read the expressions of his classmates as he scanned every face in the cafeteria. When he discovered a negative result for his search, his eyes narrowed.

"These idiots don't know whose birthday today is." He thought.

He got up from his chair and turned silently away from his squad.

"Hey Bakugo! Where are you going?" Eijiro shouted and stood up from his chair.

With an annoyed and angry expression, he belted back at the redhead, "Nowhere! Don't follow me, you damn extra!"

Eijiro returned to his chair after realizing the message Katsuki had suggested indirectly. The explosive boy went to the area of the school garden that was empty—all but one person had been there. Katsuki observed a girl with (insert hair color)-colored hair sitting on a bench while he was hiding in a corner. He didn't give a damn if he came off as a stalker. Every time she wanted privacy, he always knew (Y/N) would arrive in the permanently open space. But on a specific day, (Y/N) would always go there. It took Katsuki some time to realize and a quick glance at her information paper, but he eventually realized it was her birthday.

Now, Katsuki might not have given these things much thought. He made an exception for (Y/N) from the list of people he disregarded. (Y/N) was a childhood friend of Katsuki, just like Izuku. He might or might not view her as more than a friend, though. However, there was a time when (Y/N) just abruptly stopped attending their childish gatherings and games.

Even though Katsuki was absolutely distraught on that day, he concealed it. In the eyes of others, he wished to maintain his strength and dominance. He was shocked to catch a glimpse of her (insert hair color) hair when he took the entrance exam for U.A. Bullet Time was a strange quirk of (Y/N). It was impossible to hit or shoot her because she had the ability to slow down time while fighting at an incredible speed. She claimed the second place in the exam because of this strong quirk. This was yet another factor in Katsuki's interest in the young woman. How could he like her and still put her to the test?

The boy's heart was tightened by seeing the girl look so dejected. She had always been a cheerful person, so seeing her dejected was unsettling. He stood up without thinking and walked over to the lonely girl.

When (Y/N) noticed another presence, the most unexpected guy to discover her hiding place appeared in front of her.

"Ba- Bakugo?" She said, surprised

Katsuki clenched his jaw. Back then, she didn't always refer to him by that name.

"It's Kacchan to you," he replied.

The expression in (Y/N)'s eyes changed. The good old days were something she really missed, the times when she was innocent and carefree. She wished she could go back to those fleetingly happy times.

"What are you doing here all alone and shit?" Katsuki sat on the bench next to her, casting at her bento which consisted of rice and an omelet.

"You weren't supposed to find this place," (Y/N) muttered.

"What was that?"

"Nothing!"

Silence was thickening as every second passed. That was, until Katsuki advisedly coughed out, "Hey."

(Y/N) waited for him to continue as she cast a glance at the teen with the spiky hair.

"Happy birthday, you moron."

The final part wasn't necessary, but (Y/N) accepted that.

"How did you--?"

"Look, don't go hoping like I stalked you or some shit! I just happen to take an eye on your information sheet. It wasn't on purpose, you understand?!" He yelled even though you were close to him.

A chuckle broke out of (Y/N) throat. Katsuki rambled on angrily, complaining that he didn't like it when people went to secret locations without telling him about it and other such nonsense. They were basically weak arguments, and (Y/N) fully realized that.

Katsuki took something out of his pocket and pressed it into the girl's hands.

"Eat it or I'll kill you."

A slice of cake with chocolate icing was contained in a clear box. How Katsuki managed to keep it in his pocket without destroying it was a mystery. (Y/N) thanked the teen with a grateful smile while trying to contain her laughter.

"Thank you, Kacchan. No one had ever done this to me before."

Katsuki got to his feet and started to leave. Baffled, (Y/N) did nothing but observe him walk away. Katsuki noted this and spun around to face the girl with the (insert hair color) hair.

"Why are you still sitting on that shitty bench? You look like an idiot," he added, "Let's go. We have a birthday party to make."

The girl's smile gradually appeared on her face. She hurried to the boy after quickly grabbing her bento and neatly packing it back.

It was possible that (Y/N) would say that was her best birthday in a while. All because of her devoted hedgehog.
