Trigger Warning! Suicide and Depression

Todoroki Shoto x Reader

"I think many people kill themselves simply to stop the debate about whether they will or they won't." - Susanna Kaysen

When was the last time (Y/N) was ever happy? Was it when she received a plush bunny? When she got in first place?

Her early childhood was probably the only time she thought of life as something so simple. It was easy and worry-free growing up, all just too pleasant. During those times, all she felt was content and she looked forward to a future free of any painful challenges.

At that time, (Y/N) hadn't yet developed her quirk and believed it was still undiscovered. She had that in mind. So she was so happy and excited when her parents decided to take her to the clinic to have her quirk evaluated. She had felt so impatient on the ride that her parents had to buy her something to eat while on the way, just to keep herself from being too jumpy.

"I'm sorry but the results had showed that your daughter is quirkless."

Her parents couldn't even look at her. (Y/n) wished she hadn't expressed too much enthusiasm as she sat quietly at the back of the car. She looked at the back of her parents' head, wondering what they must have felt. Maybe she'd feel a bit better if her parents were okay with it. Being quirkless wasn't too bad maybe.

Since that time, (Y/N) had known what it was like to feel a different kind of despair, a different kind of pain, and a sense of unfairness. She had never imagined that she would be maltreated for something that wasn't even her fault. Steering away from trouble was the one thing she prioritised, but it seemed this kind of trouble was something she couldn't unchain.

"It's a dangerous trail." Her friend said to her. "Since you're quirkless, maybe it's best if you stay here and wait."

They'd completely forgotten about her, and never came back. She came home before dark, but her mother never said anything to her. Normally, she'd strike a conversation and ask her how the neighbors kids were doing. Dinners were starting to get silent and slow. And then later on, they stopped eating on the table together. Her parents would say they ate outside after work, or they ate earlier and then tell her they saved her some food for her to eat alone.

It was incredibly upsetting, and (Y/n) blamed her entire being for her abnormality.

She yearned for the days when kids would treat her equally and hadn't yet grown into their quirks.

When she saw rocks and sticks flying in her direction, she'd felt absolutely terrified. It was the first time someone advanced at her violently and she didn't know what to do.

Then, however, a wall of ice rose up to protect her from the spiky objects, and a back that blocked her view from her attackers.

Her eyes were wide, pupils still slightly shaking, and mouth somewhat open. Fear was relieved into wonder as she watched the youngest son of the respectable Todoroki family standing before her eyes. His hand was emitting cold steam, the coldness nipping at his skin. Everyone marveled at the sight as they paused.

(Y/n) had heard all about him.

Despite his young age, the boy was strong and intelligent, and he had the ability to simultaneously use two different quirks. She was absolutely sure of his potential as a future hero.

"Stop that."

The bullies' faces were affrighted as they scurried away, not at all excited to face a renowned son that had his life dedicated to train to become a hero. They were completely pathetic compared to him.
