"You stole my heart but I'll let you keep it." - Anonymous
"Damn it, it's getting dark." (Y/N) muttered as she ran through the halls of the prestigious school. She was assigned on cleaning duty at the pool. She was in for a disappointment because the storm a few days prior had left the pool in terrible shape. Nobody could clean because school had been cancelled at the time.
She had just finished cleansing the water and she was more than eager to go home. She put the cleaning supplies back where they belonged and went to get her bag from the lockers. She left the school once her chores were finished and headed home.
Her apartment was a couple of blocks away and the sky was beginning to get darker each second. Fearing what might occur to her on the way, (Y/N) began to experience anxiety. Her footsteps started to speed up to the direction of a small convenience store ahead.
Feeling more relaxed at the lit up store, she slowed her pace. She wanted to ask someone from the store to accompany her to her apartment but she knew that couldn't happen. She was incredibly shy, so shy that she was unable to even ask a classmate for a piece of paper.
Someone suddenly stepped out of the store, much to her surprise. Mashirao locked eyes with her classmate, surprise etched on his features. She was still wearing the school uniform, which he noticed.
"(Y/N), you just finished cleaning duty?" He asked.
With a soft tone, she answered, "Y-Yeah."
He took in his surroundings and noted how late it was. After all, he had just finished his shift. Looking at (Y/N), he stated, "It's late. You shouldn't be walking on the streets alone."
"Well, all of the students already went home after I finished so I really didn't have a choice."
Mashirao smiled softly at the fainthearted girl. "Then I guess I should walk you home."
Quite amazed at the offer, she stuttered out, "W-What? But don't you live at the opposite direction?"
"Nevermind that, as long as you get home safely."
Still, Mashirao took her on a homeward stroll. (Y/N) actually felt relieved though. It was dark and she needed someone to make her feel at ease. They exchanged brief facts about one another through their conversations. Because of Mashirao, (Y/N) felt less anxiety. Compared to any other person, he made her feel more at ease.
Finally yet sadly, Mashirao and (Y/N) reached their destination. (Y/N) bowed slightly at her newly found friend and spoke, "Thank you for accompanying me all the way here. Would you like to go inside?"
Mashirao shook his head no and answered, "Ah no thanks, (Y/N)-san. I should probably get going before it gets too late."
"Ah! Right! Sorry for wasting your time."
"You shouldn't be. I enjoyed our time together."
At his remark, (Y/N) flushed, and Mashirao couldn't help but chuckle.
"Then, I'll see you tomorrow, (Y/N)-san."
As her face continued to flush, (Y/N) nodded. The blonde boy gave one last smile and walked away. (Y/N) laid her hand on the area of her chest where her heart was as she watched his figure shrunk with each step he took. Her face was warm, her heart beating faster and louder than usual. She was having trouble with the tingling in her stomach.
What is this feeling?
Her face began to flush as a mental image of Mashirao's gentle, soft smile flooded her mind. She slapped her cheeks in unison while shaking her head vigorously to try to shake the image from her mind.
What is happening to me?
