Reis' P.O.V
I rub my face as harshly as I can with running water.
Cold sweat trickles down my forehead; mixing with the cold tap water of the kitchen sink. Why do I feel strange?
Something's not right.
"You okay?" Father asks, a small lamp letting him see the documents on the table. But his eyes are glued to his laptop, his fingers typing with the speed of sonic the hedgehog.
I freeze in place as his gaze lifts.
Why? I have no idea.
"I uh... Do you feel that?"
He lifts his chin.
"Aye, the brush of your imaginary friend Cookie Monster."
I feel a bright blush creeping up my cheeks. "That was eleven years ago—"
I brush the thought off my mind. "Don't you feel like something's off?"
He raises one perfect brow, putting his glasses on as he lines a small stack of papers. "Why? Scared? Do you want daddy to read you a story?"
Papa, no.
Yes.
"Do these make me look smarter?" He asks, wiggling his glasses from the back of his ears.
He's hiding something.
"Cute." I mock, earning a sneer from the man before me.
He waves a hand, motioning for me to sit with him. I shrug and obey, making my way across with my mug of morning coffee. Three in the morning, to be precise.
"Aren't you excited, Reis? Soon Reid can finally join the family."
"Family—" I stop, eyes widening.
Bastard actually did it.
He looks at me with the 'guess what comes next' look, albeit not letting me say a word. "But... I do need someone to talk to Mr. Psychopath."
Ah, that look.
He thinks I'm some woman to be swooned with?
"Hell, he's scary when he's like that." I mutter, lowering my gaze.
Insane.
I don't wonder why father is so excited for Reid to join the hound. He's agile, stronger and smarter. It scares me, to be honest.
I am jealous.
Father favours him more than me.
In that state of mind.
"Why do you think I'm sending you?" He asks rhetorically, sending a shiver of laughter my way.
But instead of cowering, I fire back. "You expect to control a beast when you yourself are afraid of it?"
Another deep chuckle.
"No, Reis. You are the hunter. I am the master.
"He is my K9"
