Chapter 9 Why Can't you stay?

I leave tomorrow. I don't want to think about leaving him but I can't stay. Our relationship isn't going to work through technology, its not the same as seeing him in person, touching him, kissing him. Just the thought of leaving him makes we want to cry. I'm with Maddy on the beach. We are tanning again and its all I can think about. She and I both have sunglasses on so she shouldn't be able to tell if I cry, and I do. Silent tears roll down my face. She looks over. "Chloe? Why on earth are you crying?"

"I don't want to leave Zack, but I have no choice. I can't just never go back home. My whole family and all my friends there. I can't leave them behind, but I can't leave him behind either!"

"Wow. You really do honestly love him. I'm not sure what to do about it. Relationships are never easy."

"I know. I've never had such a big problem before. I know I'm meant to be with him. It was destiny we met here. And those dreams were visions, telling me that my dream boy is real, and he is!"

"I'm sure you guys will figure it out. Go walk it off. Walking always helps."

"OK thank you. See you later, Maddy."

"Bye Chloe! And good luck."

I gathered all my things into my bag. I walked close enough to the water so that when the waves came in, they hit my feet. It helps me relax for some reason. The sun was starting to set and it looked so beautiful. At first I was just thinking, then I noticed to boys around my age were staring at me. This made me feel extremely uncomfortable, so I started walking. One of them whistled at me, which made me a little pissed. One of them yelled,"Check out that ass, bro!" Now I'm really pissed. I started running. I was still about four blocks from my house. I turned around and they had packed up their stuff, they were following me. I kept my phone in my hand just in case they tried to do something. They were about ten feet away from me now. It was starting to get dark, this isn't good. Maddy was probably home by now. I heard their foot steps behind me. "Hey there baby. Wanna come back to my place and have a little fun?" The other one laughed.

"No thanks. I'm fine. Fuck off!"

"Oh baby, don't be like that. We're going to my place now. Time for you to get feisty with me!" He grabbed my hand.

"I said fuck off!" I pulled my hand away and punched him in the nose. There was blood.

"You little bitch!", the other one yelled. He grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him. I bit his arm as hard as I could. He wailed in pain. The guy with the bloody nose grabbed both my arms and pulled them behind my back. I screamed at the top of my lungs. I saw somebody run up to us with a baseball bat. They hit both of the guys in the head enough to knock them out. I was on my knees, shaking with fear. "Chloe! What happened?" I know that voice. I looked up and it was Zack. I threw myself into his arms. I didn't cry, I was just shaking really badly. He kept asking me what happened but I couldn't talk. We both heard one of those assholes stirring so we got out of there. He jogged me home. He knocked on the door and my mom answered. Great.

"Oh my gosh! What happened to you guys?"

"Chloe got jumped by these two dicks. I heard somebody scream so I started running. I saw them grabbing her so I took the baseball bat they had with their stuff and knocked them out."

"Jesus Christ. We've had enough excitement in this trip already and this happens too?"

"I don't think she should be outside that much tomorrow. Those jerks will probably be looking for her."

"That's a good idea Zack. Thank you for helping her. If you hadn't been there, who knows what would have happened if you hadn't come along."

"I will do anything for the people I love Mrs. Sanders."
