The alarm clock beside my bed had went off fifth teen minutes to seven. I had an hour to get ready for my aptitude test. I got out of bed, glancing into the mirror besides me. I took my brush and unknotted my long black hair. I brushed the hair out of my blue eyes, and set it down. I took my top and bottoms off, walking to my drawer and taking out a blue shirt and dress pants. The door opened- it was my sister.
"Charlotte, you have twenty minutes. Mother wants us there early." She said. My sister shut the door, and went down the hall.
"Yes Jane.." I whispered.
"And wear a skirt!" I heard her yell. I rolled my eyes and began getting into my dress pants.
Once I was dressed, I took my bag from the end of my bed containing a book about the faction system's history. That was really all I carry with me.
My mother had prepared breakfast, but I was only able to eat half of it due to my sister rushing ourselves out the door. She insisted that we walk, instead of taking the car.
She finally spoke about half way through the walk when factionless asked for food.
"Tisk tisk, too bad." She said to them. I ignored her and took the only food that I had in my bag out. An apple and grapes.
"Here," I said and handed them the food. They thanked me and I ran back to my sister.
"That's the Abnegation's job. You shouldn't be doing a Stiff's job." She scowled.
"Yes, but there's not a lot of Abnegation around this part of the city." I said to her. We were already at the aptitude gathering. I walked faster than my sister to the line.
Almost every faction was here- except Dauntless. The train would be coming soon though. Minutes passed and soon we all heard the train. The doors slid opened with eager Dauntless teenagers looking ahead. The train didn't slow down. The Dauntless teenagers leaped out of the moving train, yelling and cheering. They all started running to their line. I stepped forward and watched them. A Dauntless boy glanced at me and winked. . He was quite handsome. Brown hair, hazel eyes, he was gorgeous. I smiled back. And now that all the factions were here, we all went in.
My faction and I walked down a hall, that lead us into a separate halls. It lead me to a single door. I opened it without hesitation. A man in his early twenties with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes stood at a rolling table. He had a tattoo sleeve on his left arm, but besides that, he was fairly good looking.
"Take a seat." He said. "I'm Tato. I'll be managing your test." Tato stated. "Name?" He asked.
"Uh, Charlotte Weldrum." I said. He frowned.
"What?" I asked.
"Weldrum.. Your parents have expectations of you. They told me to lie about your results, say your Erudite so you'll become the child they want." He looked up to me. "But you don't want that, correct?"
"No. I'm hoping for my result to be.." I stopped in embarrassment.
"Dauntless?"
"Yeah. They're so free and the warriors.." I trailed off. He nodded.
"Well, it's ready so we'll see where you belong." Tato said as he injected the serum into me. "A tip: Choose the knife." I nodded.
I closed my eyes and opened them after a moment. I was in a room with wooden floor boards and quart walls. The room extended to a hall with a figure at the end. I began walking and reached the end. There were three knives and a bag of apples.
"Choose one." Tato said.
I thought about what he said earlier about the knife. I picked the pack of knives up. The tables disappeared and so did he. I heard a scream of a little girl. I ran farther up the hall to the scream. There was a factionless woman trying to take food from a Candor girl. Was I suppose to kill the factionless woman? Without thinking, I spoke.
