"NOOOO!" I woke up sweaty and breathing heavy. I immediately threw off my blanket. Footsteps echoed down the dark, empty hall of the house.
"Another nightmare?" My older brother opened the door and peaked through right in front of me. He reached in and flipped the light switch next to the door. The light wasn't too bright, but enough for me to cover my eyes.
"Yeah," I replied realizing I was crying in my sleep. My arm dropped to my side as I sat up with my back against the dark blue wall of my small room. I pulled my legs up to my chest and hugged them. Kazuki walked in and sat on the edge of my bed with a small squeaky creak. I remember how much the squeaky bed frame used to bother my mom. Well, I don't know if bother really is the right word. I guess dislike would be better. I was trying to hide the salty tears leaking from my eyes, not very successfully. His weight shifted on the bed. Out of curiosity, I looked up. He looked right at me with his dark brown eyes that matched Dad's.
It sucked that there were times when Dad wouldn't be home for weeks at a time. He told us that his current mission would take a while, leaving Kazuki and I alone with the twins.
"You know, if I keep having to get up every other night at 2 in the morning to comfort you, I'm going to fall asleep on the job." I didn't say anything. His concerned look shifted to my nightstand next to me which had my high school admission form lying on top.
"You're worried about that?" I questioned, following his gaze.
"Of course I am. You haven't turned it in yet? I know you want to go to U.A. Its a good school." He stood up. "Besides. You're meant to be a hero. We both know Mom would want to you go." My mouth quivered.
"Come on, don't doubt it. I heard a rumor from a source that All Might may be teaching there soon. I know you really like his work. A tragic past makes a better hero!" He mimicked an All Might pose, with both arms flexed and the classic toothy smile. This was what Kazuki was really good at, was making me smile when I was down.
"You're such a dork. Don't even pretend you're anything like All Might!" I giggled while Kazuki continued to smile. Lifting his left hand, he squirted me with water right in my face. He is such a good actor sometimes, I think he should have gone into theatre instead of hero work. Although, it's a useful skill for saving people and calming them down in a bad situation.
"Hey! What was that for?" I replied chuckling. He smiled again. In turn, I blasted him with really cold air. He reacted immediately by hugging himself.
"T-t-that's c-cold! Jerk! I- I guess that's w-what I get for comforting y-you!" He ran out of my room leaving the light and door open. I laughed. Wiping the water off my face, I jumped off my bed and turned off the light and closed the door with a ker-chlunk.
If I can go back to sleep, in the morning I'll sign and hand in the form. Sure, I always wanted to go to U.A., but I'm not sure if I can make it, everyone else has more experience. I did get my quirk late.
