Topangas

Just 2 blocks from her house was Topangas. A store her mother owned now after the original owner had passed. She went through the whole story, never missing a detail in it.

So here I sat. Feeling uncomfortable around a group of people that already knew each other, and had grown so close together.

"Maya tell us about your little friend" One dark skinned boy said, crossing his legs and leaning forward.

"Yeah she's pretty" one skinny boy dressed in dark said with fascinated eyes.

I short girl with black hair and glasses stood up. "Listen he's mine" she said defensively.

I raised an eye brow at those twos dynamics.

"Maya this is Zay, Lucas, Farkle, and Smakle" Riley introduced me.

They all looked pretty friendly. They seemed like a happy bunch. I wondered who could have such kind friends. Even from just being in the same room with them for just a minuet or so I could feel how genuine they were.

"Hi" I waved nervously.

"So how did you two meet?" Lucas asked. His you could hear his slight country twang in his voice. It annoyed me, so much that I wanted to rip my ears off.

Before I could come up with a lie Riley eagerly answered.

"We met at the park across the street from here" she smiled.

"Well, we love having new friends. Just watch your step around my man"  Smakle eyed.

I was surprised that she was actually smart enough to pull that off. No offense to Riley but she didn't seem like the type to lie much.

I sat awkwardly next to Riley with her circle of friends. Notice I said her friends. Their not mine. I barely know these people or trust them. Not one bit.

I listened to them talk about their summer break. Lucas and Zay had just gotten back from visiting their families down in Texas.

Farkle and Smakle just spent thier time studying at a science camp, studying the solar system and what not.

Riley said she had just spent her days relaxing and helping out her mother here at Topangas. Which I knew was partially a lie. I mean she had just gotten released from a hospital a while ago.

"Maya, what did you do?" Lucas asked.

"Um, I just stayed home and relaxed. Sleeping mostly. On occasions I leave the rock I live under and go out to enjoy the weather."

They all laughed, amused at my reply.
I awkwardly laughed along with them.

"Well I'm glad you have a sense of humor. For a second I thought you were going to be one of those serious types" Zay laughed.

I stayed quiet half the time, listening to Farkle and Lucas fight about how Farkle ruins every ending of each movie they see together. I had to admit though it was quite funny. Farkles squeaky but deep voice tried to sound all tough when in actuality he wasn't. Lucas on the other hand stayed calm and amused.

"We should all go to the fair together this weekend!" Riley chimed in.

"The fair is just a way for companies to jack up their prices, since they gain so many consumers there" Smakle replied in an almost robotic way.

"Isn't that every place?" I challenged.

"Except Topangas!" Riley said gleefully.

"Okay, except Topangas. But you can't deny that the reason every place is open is so the owner can gain money" I continued.

"Girl fight! Let's get in on!" Farkle yelled ripping off his jacket and tossing it to the side.

"Okay guys, your missing the point! Yes or no?" Riley tried calming us down.

"It's a yes for me and the idiot right here" Smakle said, put her arm around Farkle.

"Count me in" Lucas joined.

"Yeah me to!" Zay smiled.

Everyone turned looking at me waiting for my answer. "Me three."
