Hello, this is Eddie. I'm currently 18 but a month from now will change my clock, meaning I'll be turning 19. I'm not much of a popular person anywhere except at home because I don't talk much.

Many of my acquaintances live in hostels or lodges which are much closer to the school but I don't. I'm a college student. Reading love stories, novels, and magazines is my thing because I believe the fantasy world is a great escapade from reality, and in some corner of my mind, I thought they exist. I even read about marriages- how marriage is a bed of roses if you can pluck the thorns out for good, which seems impossible considering a large amount of the said flower.

I would often find myself daydreaming about the man I was going to get married to. You know about whom I can say to the world, "HE IS MY MAN!". Cringy much? I know, right?!

Don't get me wrong. I am pretty ambitious too. I have my own dreams and priorities strengthened out. However, there is a thing called destiny in everyone's life. And lets just say it is pretty unpredictable.

This is a story of my life, how destiny tilted my world....

***********

Unreal images and motions of my subconscious mind slowly faded into a pitch dark background and the peace that I once enjoyed was now replaced by screams. Once Again.

With my mind fully awake and my body limb, I lay numbly on the bed while the annoying screams from outside disturbed the serenity of the environment. Sitting up but in a state of languor, I raised a fist to rub my right eye while yawning. It definitely must be 5:00- 09 by now.

I climbed down from my now scattered bed, moving towards the window with lazy steps and facing the compound the noise was coming from. Shifting the curtain a bit, I fixed my gaze on the dimly lit compound few meters from ours. There were small movements dashing aggressively past windows I could view.

The loudest voice aggressive was a woman's voice. She was screaming acrimonious words toward her husband while the man exchanged just a few but very harsh words. It's been like this for quite a long time.

The wife always accused her husband of cheating because well he comes back late everyday but she should have considered that before agreeing to marry him. The marriage was only six years old. Quarrels started with her first pregnancy which was perhaps six months old, because her stomach was really round so fast. But by that time their marriage was only four months old. You could guess what had happened.

Suddenly the outside lights were turned on, making me shut my eyes in pain. Opening it back, my eyes slowly adjusted to normal. The man was outside now with the woman following behind. He got into his car and revved the engine while his wife banged at the side window. I closed the curtain and walked further into my room already knowing what would happen next.

Like already on cue, a hard slap was heard followed by a scream, next the car started driving off. I shrugged my shoulders, excavating such thoughts and dumping it in the ocean. My own future family will be perfect, I will never hate my husband and he will love me for who I am. But he should wait for my priorities first before we get hitched and then it will be perfect.
