A/N: Okay, kinda inspired by the song 'I am Not a Robot', and I kinda thought the lyrics fir. Not a songfic, but just inspired by the lyrics.

God, I love this song.

Also, I know this isn't the Fallout AU one I promised in the last one, but that one's still kinda in the works rn.

Also, this is a really long one. Like I got way too into writing this since it was kinda based off of things that happened earlier this week lmao. I cried in my bathroom 3 times before actually finishing it lmfao

Enjoy!

Honestly, you liked him. Gavin, I mean. He could be a little rough and tough on the outside, but on the inside, you knew in all reality he was a big softie. And not to mention attractive as hell, but that wasn't necessarily what drew you in. Although you usually stood up for the androids he harassed, he enjoyed your company- But he would never admit that. Especially to you.

You had found Gavin outside the DPD, smoking. An obvious, but kinda sad, spot to find him at.

"There you are. I knew that since I couldn't find you inside, I assumed you were out here." You approached him and leaned on the wall adjacent to him. "What're you looking for me for?" He takes a drag of his cigarette and huffs out a cloud of smoke. "Well, I need to know if you've found anything new for our case. And would you stop that? You know how much I hate it when you smoke, Gavin." He sniggers at you, but then immediately becomes annoyed as you steal the cigarette from his mouth and throw it on the ground, stamping it out. "What was that for?! Look, just because you don't like it, doesn't mean I'll stop." You sigh and rest a hand oh his chest. "Look. I- Just please take care of yourself. And if not for me, then for y'know. You." You start making your way back inside of the building before making a final glance at the male. "I'll be inside, okay? I can deal with the case for now. See you." He watches you enter the building as the door closes behind you, and he replays what you just said to him in his mind. 'She's fucking right. I need to stop. For... Her.' He trudges towards the door and enters, his course set for your desk.

Gavin speedily makes his way to you and doesn't even give you time to say hello. "Do you want to go out sometime? Or maybe just, uh, come over?" A nervous expression was etched onto his face as he looked in every direction except at you. "Sure. When's a good time?" He looks at your face with surprise and slightly leans back in disbelief. "I'm sorry, what?" You cross your legs, leaning back in your chair. "I said, 'When's a good time'. I'm free tonight and tomorrow, so pick." He slightly laughs, then clears his throat anxiously. "Tonight s-sounds good." He mentally cursed himself for stuttering. "Okay cool. Is seven good?" He nods, maybe a bit too quickly for his liking. You flash him a kind smile, before turning your chair to keep working. "I'll see you later, Gavin." He smiles to himself a bit, then goes back to being the tough guy people think he is.

He doesn't want people to think he's vulnerable and weak.

The time of your date with Gavin rolls around, and you're ready. You're wearing something casual, but not to the extreme. Locks of (H/C) frame your face, and you're ready to take on the world. Well, Downtown Detroit, at least. Gavin arrives at your door, and you both get into his car. The fluorescent lights of neon signs reflect on the windows of the car, as he pulls into a spot on the street. He pulls you to a bar it seemed he frequented since a few people inside seem to recognize him. You were never really one to drink, but if it was offered to you, you wouldn't really say no. But you promised yourself you wouldn't get piss ass drunk like the last time you went to a bar. "Just a Whiskey, thanks." He seats himself at the bar, and you do the same. "Oh, the same for me." You didn't really know him to drink very often. Maybe he didn't, and it was just to improve his bad reputation? You were kinda unsure. You had both left after a few drinks, telling him that you didn't want to get plastered while out with him. "Then why don't we go back to my place? Watch a movie or something, I dunno." You nodded, and both of you made your way to his car. He started talking and telling stories of stuff he said he did when he was younger. A lot of them sounded like lies based off of how he told them, but you decided not to say anything to him about it. I got kinda quiet, but you broke the silence when you spoke up. "I have a question. Why are you always trying to act so tough, when in all reality you're kinda like a child inside." He seemed almost offended. "Uh-I am so not a child! And what do you mean 'act', that's not an act, it's how I am, (Y/N)." You crossed your arms and looked at him. "Gavin, you seriously are the worst liar I've ever met. You do know it's okay to have a weak spot sometimes, right?" He takes a sharp inhale, before sighing. "Haha, you've caught me. I-Okay, if I tell you, you have to swear you'll never tell anyone. Please." As he finishes his sentence, you realize he's pulled into the parking lot of his apartment building. "Cross my heart, Gavin." He takes a breath, as he turns in his seat to face you.

"When I was younger, in my last year of middle school- I was probably one of the nerdiest kids there- and I got bullied for it. A lot. Like to the point of them having to beat me up for it." He lets out a breathy laugh before continuing. "But I then transferred schools for my freshman year of high school, and that's when I decided that I needed to change something. I couldn't put my finger on it though; clothes, hair, etc. But then I realized it wasn't what I looked like." You slightly leaned closer to him in your seat, listening closely to his words and focusing on his facial expressions. "It was how I acted. I totally threw away my fucking nerd attitude and replaced it with a douchey asshole one." He turned away, looking really at nothing through the windshield. "But when I did that, I didn't really realize that it still held up throughout the rest of my shitty life." A sad smile places itself upon his face. "I-I just couldn't take it anymore. I took snide remarks as nothing more than a rude joke, but I knew what they meant. I knew that somewhere in the back of my mind it would come out this way." He turns back to face you, his grey eyes locking with your (E/C) ones. "I'm not a robot, (Y/N). I can only take so much before I just shut down like one. I don't know what to do, I'm in this cycle I can't break, and I'm just... Stuck." He turns himself so that he's now sitting correctly in his seat as he takes another deep breath. "Now you know the actual reason I act like..." He gestures to himself and leans further back into his chair. "This. And now everyone hates me in one way or another because of it." He stays silent after he finishes. You gently set a hand on his shoulder, as if trying to not scare a wild animal. "I don't hate you, Gavin. That's got to count for something, right? And what about Tina, huh? I'm pretty sure she doesn't hate you." He looks away from you again, still trying to hide some of his emotions. "Look, do you want to go inside and watch something? Whatever you want, I promise." He slowly nods as you smile a bit. "Alright, cool. Come on." You press a soft kiss to his cheek, and his face erupts in pink. You slide yourself out of his car, as he does the same, just a tad bit slower.

~~~~
You both enter his apartment as he closes the door behind you. You take off your shoes and drop yourself onto his couch, as he does the same. As soon as your body hits the plush cushions, you almost fall asleep, but stay awake for his Gavin's sake. "Alright, what are we-" You cut yourself off with a small yawn. "watching? Nothing horror though, please. I actually can't stand it." He crisscrosses his legs, and you mimic his movements. "What about a classic? Star Wars? Back To The Future? Those are good ones, let's just watch those." You happily nodded, since you actually had a fondness for older movies. The nostalgia was what you really enjoyed most. The first movie in the infamous trilogy starts, and you lean into him slightly. He didn't seem to protest, so you slowly and continually cuddle into him as much as you can.
"Hey, can I- Can I tell you something?" He begins to speak, a hint of anxiety resting in his voice. "Yeah, what's up?" You look at him in anticipation, as he closes his eyes in an almost pained manner. "Look. It's totally cool if you don't feel the same way, but I just can't stand you not knowing anymore. I, uh, I like you, okay?" He sighs and opens his eyes. "You- I just- You're the only person I trust right now, a-and I just can't stand bottling up my feelings anymore, (Y/N)." He hugs himself in a cower and looks away. "I'm such a fucking disgrace and a waste of space." Your eyes go wide as you tackle him in a hug. "Gavin, that's not fucking true. You are not a disgrace, and you are definitely not a fucking waste of space. Gavin, I feel the same exact way, and you are so important to me in more ways than you can imagine." Tears spill from the male's eyes as your own threaten to spill as well. "I'm so in love with you Gavin, it hurts." You pull away and press a gentle kiss to his lips. He rests his hands on your hips, and you remove yourself from the kiss, smiling at him. "Gavin, you are a thousand times better than what you think of yourself, and I really do hope you believe me."  You position yourself to where you're in a laying position on his couch and straddling his hips. You go from hovering over him to cuddling his torso in mere seconds. "Please don't think so lowly of yourself, okay?" He holds you slightly tighter than before and buries his face in your hair. "Thank you, (Y/N). You have no idea how much you mean to me." He breathes out and turns his attention back towards the movie still playing in the background. He wasn't really paying attention to the movie; he was paying attention to you. You had closed your eyes, a sigh of comfort escaping your lips. You thought you heard Gavin something before you had succumbed to the clutches of sleep, but you weren't actually sure.
"You have no idea."
