"Alissa, are you ok?" Dravin says concerned. If I'm being honest I was in shock at what I just heard. I just stared at him not knowing what to say.
"Yeah, I'm ok." Is all I could muster up.
"I know it's a lot to take in. Especially when we just met a few hours ago. But it's the truth." I could tell his words were sincere.
"It's just, I never thought that vampires could be real. They're from movies. Fiction. And the things you said about us, ending up together." I looked at the floor and wrapped my arms around myself. I tried not to look at him. Not because I was scared, but because I was trying to process everything at once.
"Look at me." His voice was soft and calming. I bit my lip, unsure of what to do. I eventually looked up at him.
"Are you afraid of me now?" His eyes showed concern and I could tell he was slightly hurt at my reaction. He was worried if I now feared him.
"Dravin. I said in a soft voice. I'm not afraid of you, I know we've only known each other for not even 24 hours, but I know one thing, the way I feel when I'm with you, is a feeling a can't describe. You make me feel happy and safe, if that makes sense." If I could describe the feeling I get when I'm around him I would say it feels like everything is right in the world. Like two magnets being pulled towards one another.
"Alissa the moment you stepped inside the door It took everything inside me not to kiss you. I saw you coming in my vision and I knew that you were the one I was supposed to spend my life with. It's a feeling I can't describe either, it just feels natural." We both looked at each other and I knew that he was the one. Vampire or not, this man is mine.
"I want to be with you." He says. Hearing those words made my heart flutter.
"I want to be with you too." He walks over to me and I put my hands up in front of me. Keeping him at a safe distance.
"Wait, so your whole family are Vampires?" I asked.
"You really want to talk about that now?" His eyebrows scrunched confused.
"Yes Dravin, if I'm getting into bed with a vampire I'd like to know these things." He rolled his eyes.
"Fine. He says. Taking a seat next to me on the bed. What do you want to know?"
"Do all vampires have an ability?" I asked unsure. He looked shocked. Which made me nervous.
"I'm the only one who can see the future, but Ambrosia and Athena can read minds. And no not every vampire has an ability."
"That explains a lot." I said. He frowns at me.
"Yesterday at dinner, in my head I asked if I'd ever get a ring like yours, because I was picturing us together and Ambrosia said. "Yeah right" she heard me say it." What else has she heard me say?
"I was wondering why she said that, I thought she was just being her usual weird self."
"What about Grayson or Thorne?" I assume they're just normal vampires since Dravin didn't mention anything.
"Gray can manipulate people into doing what he wants or what he wants them to see, he just looks at them and says whatever he wants, and they'll do it, or he can touch you and make you see things. He can also see what you have seen like a vision of your memories." He said.
"That's kinda scary." That sounded like a horrible thing to be able to do to someone.
"It kinda is. He admitted. I've only seen him do it once because he doesn't like to do it to people. It's an invasion of privacy, unless they really deserve it." Now I'm kinda scared.
"And the person he did it to, did they deserve it?" I ask in suspense. Dravin sighs.
"Yes they did, let's just say that Gray didn't show them any mercy and they deserved everything they got. Gray saw inside their mind and well, you can guess what happened." He grimaced.
"He killed them?" My eyes widened.
"Yeah he did, Gray got so angry at the things he saw, he tore his head clean off." Oh my god, that sounds so gross.
"Did he tell you what he saw?" I asked.
"I asked him, but he said that I couldn't handle it so I just dropped it. And as for Thorne he can make you tell the truth. He doesn't do it very often but if he gets mad he can't control it. It just takes over him." I'll have to remember that.
"Wow you all have such amazing abilities." I tried my best to sound genuine. On the inside I was a little freaked out to be honest, but I didn't let him see through me.
"I'm glad you think so. He smiles. My parents are the only ones who don't have any abilities. I guess not everyone has one." He shrugged.
"What about Elu and Eyota? Something's tells me they're not human.
"They're werewolves."
"Werewolves?" I said in a high pitched tone.
"You sound surprised." He laughs.
"I just found out that vampires exist and now you're saying that werewolves also exist? It's a lot for me to handle but I've excepted it and i think I'm ok with it." He laughs quietly.
"Why does Thorne look like my friend Alec? Does he have a twin he never knew about? You seemed shocked when I showed you his picture." Could Alec and Thorne be related? Maybe not close in blood but way down the line.
"Well he could be Thorne's doppelgänger, which is a person who looks exactly like you but one is normally evil and the other is good. They can happen every 1,ooo years or so, I guess it happened."
"I'm sorry did you say doppelgänger?" I couldn't believe the day I was having. All the creatures in movies that I thought were just fiction are actually real.
"I know this is a lot, I'm sorry I'm dumping all this on you all at once. I should have spread it out more." He said. I decided to forget that and focus on getting to the bottom of this doppelgänger thing.
"But Alec isn't evil and from what I know about Thorne neither is he." I frowned.
"Thorne Nyx, wasn't always a good guy, I found him over a century ago on a killing spree in New York. He had killed nearly half the town. I had a vision about him and I told my parents that we could possible have a new member of the family joining us very soon. They were cool with it, they feel like we should do everything to help our kind who had a less fortunate way of turning so that's what I did. He was a mess when I found him. He had tried to end his life many times over the years but always failed to do so. He was so wrapped up in guilt and self loathing that he didn't want to go on. He was so ashamed of the man he had become. I found him just in time to. He is my best friend and I would die for him. He once said to me that if it weren't for me he would have never known what a brother was like. And he's always thanking me for saving his life." Dravin is extraordinary I had to admit. How he can see the future and how he didn't even know Thorne at the time and traveled all the way to the U.S to save him.
"Wow, I can't imagine. That was so selfless of you to do that. I don't think I could have done that."
"It definitely wasn't easy, but Thorne was worth it. Is there anything else you want to know?" He waited for an answer. I smiled.
"How old are you exactly?" I have a feeling he's been around for a long time.
"I was born in 1672 and died in 1692, I'm 20, but I have been for 328 years." Holy crap! That's way older than I thought.
"Wow, maybe I shouldn't be with such an old guy." I laughed a little.
"Oh really?" He raised an eyebrow.
"When's your birthday?" I asked.
"October 31st."
"How fitting a vampire born on Halloween." I snickered.
"To be fair I wasn't a vampire yet so it doesn't count." He smiles.
"You're right, you got me there." He has a great sense of humor.
"When's yours?" He asks.
"February 3rd." I liked this, we were both asking and answering questions about each other. Makes things seem a little more normal.
"How did you become a vampire?" I hope this isn't a touchy subject.
"My family is originally from Massachusetts, and during the Salem witch trials there was a vampire who would frame others for his murders. Thinking there were witches in the town, when really it was just a vamp spreading rumors so he wouldn't get caught. I mean there were a few real witches but they were smart enough to keep a low profile, so innocent people were killed thinking they were doing witchcraft. The vampire came to us in the night, my father saw him drinking the blood of an innocent woman, he saw my father and my father threatened to expose him. So he turned us all into monsters so we would keep his dirty little secret. We then killed him for what he did. Told the town the monster was dead so they wouldn't worry anymore, and vowed to never be like him and only drink when we needed to. We then moved to Romania shortly after to get a new start. I have to admit it was hard at first but it got easier as the years went by." He smiled. Geez that's a lot of baggage.
"That's so awful. I'm sorry you had to go through that." This whole family has been through hell. No wonder Ambrosia is the way she is when it comes to strangers.
"Thanks Alissa, I've never told anyone that story before." He looked at the floor.
"Not even past girlfriends?" I asked hoping I didn't step too far.
"There hasn't been anyone. I've just never found the right one." I find that very hard to believe. Has he seen himself?
"That must have been really lonely. All those years being single." I thought I was lonely when I didn't date anyone for a year after Jake.
"It was very lonely. But good things come to those who wait. I got you." He smiled widely. Making my heart flutter.
"You can trust me, I won't say anything to anyone." I know how this goes. The evil sister tries to kill me for gossiping.
"I know." He says taking my hand in his.
"Three more questions. How can you help Elu and Eyota with their problem? I'm assuming there's a full moon soon and they need help transitioning?" Dravin looked at me in astonishment.
"You're really smart you know that? And yes, there is." I've seen a lot of syfy movies. That's how I know so much. Alec and I would watch American werewolf in London and all the creepy black and white films. He was such a geek for all that stuff. He'd die if he found out who I was with. Literally and metaphorically.
"How do you know how to help them?" He's a vampire not a wolf.
"My friend Dakota was a werewolf, she was bitten by one. And I saw what she had to go through. Elu and Eyota were born into it, they're twins and their birthday is coming up next month, they'll be 18 and that's when you start to change. There have been rare cases where you can turn younger than that but that doesn't happen very often and that usually means vampires are near by when they're not supposed to be."
"What happened to Dakota?" He swallowed hard. Oh god I stepped to far.
"She died during childbirth, Dakota was Elu and Eyota's mother, their father was so torn after she died that he left them, they don't know who their dad is except for his name. They were raised by their grandparents. Their pack didn't exactly approve of Dakota because she was bitten and not born as a wolf. You see when a werewolf finds his or her mate, you can't choose who it is. Human or wolf. You smell their scent and it's so intoxicating that you can't forget about it. Dakota just happened to be his mate, and you can choose to reject your mate or not, it's very painful to go through, because you feel sick and like your dying if you do."
"Wow that's such a special bond to have with someone." I didn't know I'd be getting a lesson in all things supernatural today. But it was very interesting.
"It truly is." He says smiling.
"Is that why you're so involved in Elu and Eyota's transformation? You feel like you owe it to Dakota to look out for them?" I put my hand on his back and tried to understand him more. He looked at me like I had figured his bond out with them before he even knew it himself.
"That's exactly true. I do feel obligated to guide them and help them as best I can. For their mom's sake. She'd be happy to know that they're not alone in this." He wiped away a stray tear. He's so sensitive I love this side of him.
"Their father's name was Adahy, he was the alpha king, he bit Dakota so that they would have pure blooded offspring since she was a human. That's what they both wanted, so their children could rule as alphas one day, even though Dakota was now a werewolf she couldn't rule along side her husband because she was bitten and not born into the clan. Their children are the rightful leaders of the pack and the twins don't even know it. Adahy's brother Analu is the chief now. He's a real piece of work. Everyone fears him. I hope I don't meet him then.
"Anything else you want to know?" He smiles at me.
"Do you have to drink human blood?" I swallowed hard. I know most vampires drink human blood but maybe not all of them do?
"Yes we do, but we only take what we need and we don't kill anyone, we can make them forget."
"Forget?" I frowned.
"We stare into their eyes and tell them what we want them to do. It's kind of like what Gray can do, but it's different and all vampire can do this to people but not to other vampires." Oh my gosh what did I get myself in?
"Have you ever tried to do that to me?" I ask concerned about his answer.
"I would never do that to you Alissa." He says with genuine eyes.
"There's an herb called Alikrisa. It's like a repellent for vampires, you can wear it or ingest it and we can't do things you your mind. It burns us."
"This is a lot to take in for one day but thank you for telling me and for trusting me."
"Of course, you deserve to know. I'll always be honest with you." That made me feel good. More at ease with everything.
"It was nice getting to know more about you." I say.
"You still want to be together right?" Dravin says concerned. After all that and he has to ask me?
"Of course I do, I feel In my heart that we're supposed to be together." And that was true.
"I'm so glad to hear you say that." He says kissing my cheek.
"But I have one more question." I said.
"What's that?"
"If we are to be together forever I have to become one of you?" That made me most scared. Will it hurt?
"That's the only way, I'll still look like this in 50 years, sadly you won't." He smiled weakly. I nodded.
"You said we have kids?
"Yes we do end up having 2 kids."
"How's that even possible aren't you dead?"
"Technically yes but I'm sure it's possible, I'm just not sure if it's before or after you've been changed."
"We'll worry about that when the time comes. We'll have plenty of time to figure that out." I hope.
"I hope your family excepts me. What are we going to tell them? We're dating? My parents will think I'm crazy."
"Well aren't you a little bit? I mean you're the one who ends up in a relationship with a vampire." He chuckled. I can't believe him.
"Dravin. Not helping. What are we going to do?" I'm actually kinda nervous about what everyone is going to say about us being together.
"We don't have to say we're dating yet. Just that we like spending time with each other."
"Yeah I'd like to believe your sisters will be able to let that slide." Meaning they can read minds.
"Oh, well then I could always persuade them." He smirked.
"Persuade them how?"
"Oh believe me I've got some dirt on them mom and dad would be very interested to know about."
"You're all adults and older than most families, yet you're like teenagers telling on your siblings." That's interesting. They should all be living on their own right?
"They are still teenagers. And they always will be. We get to be together forever so why not spend everyday together as a family?" Wow I hadn't thought about that. Athena and Ambrosia are still teens and Dravin is only 20. Thats how the world sees them. Even though their ages are over 100 years old their appearance is much different.
"That must be difficult sometimes. Being trapped in a body that never ages. Never getting to experience physical age. Never growing old." That's pretty intense.
"But we also never get sick, heal quickly, have super human strength, faster than any normal human. Don't have to sleep unless we want to. No broken bones or sore muscles. Trust me it's not that bad." He laughs slightly. I guess he's right. Maybe being a vampire wouldn't be so bad. I could do so much more.
"I hope my siblings are as lucky as us when it comes to finding their mates. They've had past relationships but nothing ever lasted. It's been a good while since they've dated." He's so sweet. And a total romantic.
"I'm sure they will. They just have to wait right?" I winked.
"It worked for me didn't it?" He looks deep into my eyes.
"Yes. But we got lucky." I still can't believe everything that has happened so far.
"That we did. I'm going to go tell everyone that we're dating!" He laughed like a little kid. He got up and started to run out of the room.
"Dravin no! Not yet!" I hope he's joking.
