I was sweating buckets. Tonight was the night my world would change forever. The night even the fates couldn't ruin. Because tonight was the night I would propose to Annabeth. Annabeth. Just hearing her name made my heart jump and put a smile on face.

Nothing could put me down. Not even Adrian. Who's Adrian? Well, after the giant war ended, my half-brother Adrian came to camp and turned everyone against me. How, you ask, did a random person come and turn the camp against the two-time savior of Olympus? Good question. No idea. He just blamed things on me and people actually believed him. Everyone but Annabeth. Even he couldn't mess up this perfect night.

As I walked along the beach, I saw a couple, sitting at the water's edge, kissing. I smiled to myself. They reminded me so much of Annabeth and me. I remember when we would go down to the beach like they were, in a spot similar to this, where we would talk and hang out.

I turned my gaze to the horizon. The dark water lapped gently at the sand. I breathed in the salty sea breeze, muttered a prayer to my father, Poseidon, and turned back and started to walk along the shore again.

I looked back at the couple. And saw their faces. In that instant, my world shattered into million pieces. Because it was Annabeth and Adrian. Kissing. Annabeth. Annabeth. Annabeth, my wise girl, Annabeth, my everything, Annabeth my other half. She didn't love me. She never did. It was just an act, a thirst for attention.

I was alone.
