"Petra" I jerked my head up to see who was speaking. It was Kladisa, Ethan's second-in-command. She stood in front of me, her hands on her hips, white hair plaited in a braid on the side of her head. I pushed myself up so I was standing in front of her. She was a couple of inches shorter than me, but there was something about her that just felt dangerous.

"What?" I snapped at her, annoyed she'd seen me in my weakness.

"I saw what happened with Ethan back there. Doesn't he just annoy you endlessly? I don't even know why Chaos named him commander, the weakling" Kladisa laughed, but she watched me carefully, gauging my reaction. I was having none of it.

"Ethan is a good commander. He and I may not always agree, but he is still an exceptional leader and deserves your respect. Wouldn't you agree?" I sent her a fake smile. She sent one right back.

"Of course he is, but isn't he just a little-" I cut her off before she could finish.

"Ethan is a good leader, you are just angry because Chaos thought he'd be a better fit than you for commander" I snapped and started to walk away.

"You'll regret that Petra" Kladisa growled. I snorted but didn't respond.

Like I said earlier, I have paperwork.

I leaned back in my chair yawning loudly.

"You know, there's something called sleep that helps you when you're tired. You should try it sometime," A voice said from behind me. I turned. And there was Ethan, in all of his glory.

"Sleep is for the weak," I said with a smile. He smiled back.

"Just try to get to bed at a decent time?" Ethan asked me.

"Fine. I'll try," I said, smiling softly. Ethan smiled and turned to leave.

"Wait!" I called after him, a little bit of desperation seeping into my voice against my will. He turned back towards me.

"Kladisa...after I left...she came and talk to me. Something about not being happy with your leadership and wanting the title of commander for herself?" I said, taking a bit of a risk. There wasn't a set of rules in the Stratiotiko Chaos, the Army of Chaos (A.N. Used google translate, translates to Army Chaos and my copy and paste isn't working so I couldn't use the greek version), but there was a code of honor. Anyone who broke the Code would be severely punished.

"Petra...that's-that's quite an accusation. I mean, that breaks the Code. If you're right- but if you're wrong..." Ethan said, looking a little uneasy. I knew why. If that was true, it broke quite a few rules in the Code, including respecting those of higher command than you, plotting against your comrades and participating in and endorsing unapproved activity outside of the Stratiotiko Chaos. It could result in a disastrous end, for either Kladisa if I was right, or me if I was wrong. After all, another part of the Code stated that you should not try to sabotage the honor of others by spreading false rumors. Honor is a big thing here.

"I know. But I am telling the truth and I stand by what I said," I maintained. I was not going to back down from this, no matter what Ethan said.

Ethan sighed and glanced at me, taking in my confident and determined stance.

"Alright, I'll go talk to her," He broke the silence with, and those words sealed the deal.

Maybe he'd still be alive if he'd responded differently.
