I opened my eyes and found myself standing. Which was weird, because I was pretty sure I didn't fall asleep standing. I looked around. I was standing on the banks of a river. It would have been beautiful, if not filled with stuff; watches, soggy college diplomas, the lost hopes and dreams. I was on the banks of the river Styx.
"Perseus Jackson" A low voice behind me called. I turned. In front of me stood a man. He was tall, with a long, flowing cloak. His hands where sickly pale, a drastic contrast of white to the black of his cloak. The only other thing you could see of him was his eyes. You could hardly tell they were eyes. They were pure black, with galaxies as the iris and pupil. Like the pictures of galaxies that you see? Those were like literally, not even kidding, his iris and pupil. It was both cool and creepy at the same time.
"Perseus Jackson," The...thing said again. I wasn't an expert on powerful deities, but this person felt powerful. Like, more powerful than a god. "Um, it's Percy," I said nervously. Was I supposed to be bowing? Should I bow? He chuckled. "Yes, well, Percy, how shall I put this?" He started. "Um, should I bow? Who are you? And why am I in the Underworld instead of-" I stopped, and it dawned on me. Zeus said life in Tartarus, so if I wasn't alive, then...
"Percy, you need not bow to me, and you are-" the man started again. "Oh my gods! I'm dead!" I yelled. "Yes, Percy," THe man said. I stared at him. I...I would never go to college, never get married, never have kids...and I would never get to make up for all the things I did wrong. For the things, I said wrong, for everything. I was dead.
