Chapter 6

Time had passed since the war. For once things had finally been getting back to normal. A lot of good reapers had been lost. Unohana, Jushiro, Head Captain Yamamoto, Komamura.

It was still very painful for you to even think about. You had never been the same. It took you months to even function after what had happened. Eventually with the help of Hisagi... you had started on a path of accepting it.

You would never fall in love again, that was for sure. Komamura had been and would always be, the one for you.

Years had passed and you had matured a little. Rukia became the new Head Captain and some of the Vizards returned, and even got appointed their former positions. Things were looking up in some ways. No one would forget the ones who gave their lives to protect the soul society.

You were at the academy watching the kids you had nurtured throughout the years grow up beautifully. Shizu was now a member of the fourth squad. She was no longer a little girl anymore. She had long purple hair and shining blue eyes that glistened with happiness. Her friend Kai was a feisty little kid. His hair was a deep blue and he seemed to be constantly scowling, except for when he was around Shizu that is. You had a sneaky feeling the little bugger had a crush on her.

Some of the other kids who had grown up around them had also been appointed positions in different divisions. You felt elated at their success. Komamura would have been so proud to seem them now.

You bit your lip, fighting back the tears, you wouldn't let them see you cry. This was their golden day, it should be fully enjoyed. Smiling you watched as they laughed happily running and giving you a hug.

"(Y/N)-san I'm going to be a medical reaper!!" Shizu cheered. "I can't wait to meet Yamada-san, I heard he's really the cutest." she gushed causing Kai to growl.

"He's probably a little punk!" he fired clearly annoyed. Shizu laughed.

"Oh, somebody sounds jealous~" you laughed as Shizu teased the poor tsundere of a kid. He flushed folding his arms as he turned.

"Whatever." he mumbled as she jumped glomping him.

You laughed loudly at their interaction feeling genuinely happy. You couldn't remember the last time such a sound had escaped your lips. Both of them turn to you with equal smiles. You had been much like a mother to them both since they had lost their own. Nothing was better than seeing you smile, especially after everything you went through.
