He woke up alone. Sitting up on the bed, naked, his eyes peered around the room for any sign of her. The only thing he saw were his suitcases near the door and the pillow next to him had a slight indentation where she slept last night. His hand reached for the pillow; it was cold meaning she left some time ago. With a frustrated growl, he threw back the sheets and stormed into the bathroom. Damn it, he knew they never talked about which apartment they were going to live in but he assumed. That was his problem. He should never assume when it came to his wife. He smiled to himself as he thought of her. As he reached for the faucet, the gold wedding band caught his eye, proving he was married to the most beautiful but stubborn lawyer on this side of the world.

Skylar was the first one at work. Bored and restless, she already walked around the offices twice, hoping to find someone else in but she had no luck. She walked back to her office and sat at her desk.

Her mind returned to earlier this morning. She hated leaving him but she wanted to make a point. No one, not even her husband, was going to make decisions for her anymore. She had quietly looked down at his sleeping form, kissed him lightly on the cheek, dressed and grabbed her suitcases. She felt like a thief, sneaking around but it couldn't be helped. She went back to her apartment and dressed for work.

"Good morning Skylar. A little early this morning, aren't we?" Nancy joked.

Skylar smiled and waved her in. "Please sit. I've been here an hour and never realized how big this floor was when no one was around."

Nancy sat down and Skylar proceeded to inform Nancy about the past few weeks. Surprise was written on her face when Skylar told her about the wedding. "I knew you two would make a great couple."

"Nancy, we've been married for over two weeks and the word love has never been mentioned. I don't know if he loves me."

Nancy shot her a look of disbelief. "The way he looks at you is proof enough. Besides, I don't think he would have married you if he didn't."

Skylar bit her lower lip. "You're probably right but I need to hear him say it."

Nancy crossed her arms across her chest. "Well, have you told him?"

"No." Skylar got up to pace the floor. "I'd feel terrible if I pour my heart out to him and he just tells me he married me to help me out." Skylar shook her head. "No, I don't want to take that chance."

Nancy smiled at her as if she were a small child. "Maybe he's just as unsure of your feelings as you are of his."

Skylar stopped pacing and turned to Nancy. "Nancy, how did you get to be so smart?"

Skylar's phone rang. "It comes with age," Nancy smiled as she reached to answer it. "Mr. Miller needs to see you," she said as she hung up the phone.

Skylar knocked on Bob's door a few minutes later. As she walked in she saw Matthew, Doris and Kyle were already seated. She stole a glance at Matthew. She noted his set face, his clamped mouth and fixed eyes. He was annoyed with her. She knew he would be when he woke up alone.

Skylar forced herself to look away. "What's going on?" she asked.

Bob walked around his desk and approached her. "Well, I hear congratulations are in order."

Matthew rose in one fluid motion and stood beside Skylar. She felt the tension in his body even though he stood a few inches away from her. Bob gave Skylar a hug and shook Matthew's hand. "Thank you sir."

"What's going on here?" Kyle demanded.

Bob was still smiling. "Didn't you hear? These two got married."
