Someone was calling her name from downstairs. Really yelling and making it echo throughout the house. With a groan Skylar got up and sat at the edge of her bed.
"Who the hell is that? Don't they know people are tryin' to sleep?" he said putting the pillow over his head.
She giggled as she reached for her alarm clock. Six o'clock in the morning. Remembering they only went to sleep two hours ago after a long night of intense love making, she understood his annoyance. "I'd better go downstairs and see what's going on. I'll be right back." She kissed him, grabbed her robe and went downstairs. Lindsay and Keith were standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"There you are! When were you going to tell us that Lewis Attenboro was dead?'
"You woke up half the house for that?"
Lindsay ignored her. "Jonathan called looking for you. I told him you were here and that's when he told us."
"Lindsay what's the big deal? Now you know. I'm going back to bed." She started up the stairs.
"Your father-in-law is dead and you're asking me 'what's the big deal'?"
Skylar came to a stop on the third stair and slowly turned around. "He's not my father-in-law."
"Yet."
"Never."
"Really? Is it true that he was going to jail?"
"No. Now he's going to be buried," Skylar answered sarcastically.
Lindsay gave an unladylike snort. "What did he do? Does Daddy know?"
"I don't know and Nick does know."
"Stop calling him that. Where exactly is Daddy?"
"I told you, he's away. He'll be back soon. Are you finished interrogating me?"
Lindsay gave her younger sister a dirty look as Skylar walked back up the stairs. Matthew was waiting for her by the door.
"So you heard?"
He nodded. "I was just wonderin' why you didn't mention to your sister 'bout our marriage." He crossed his arms over his naked chest.
Skylar was momentarily distracted by his muscles and chest but then recovered to answer him. "Oh don't start that again. I thought we decided to keep it a secret." Skylar walked passed him and jumped back into bed, throwing the covers over her head.
"No, you decided." He pulled the covers back so she rolled over putting her face in the pillow.
"I don't want to talk about it. I'm going back to sleep," she mumbled into the pillow.
He sat on the edge of the bed with his head hanging. "Do you want out of this marriage?"
She sat up. "No, of course not."
"Then what?"
"You'll think I'm being childish."
He gave her a sideways glance. "I want the truth."
"If you must know, I like keeping secrets from them." He twisted his mouth, which told her that he didn't believe her. "It's true. I'm waiting for the right moment to spring it on then so I can shock them." Matthew still looked skeptical. She sent him a provocative smile and raised one eyebrow. "What must I do to convince you that I enjoy being your wife?" she asked seductively.
"Prove it." He had a wicked gleam in his eyes.
Skylar got up on her knees and took off her robe. He took in her nakedness, which made him hard instantly. Slowly and quite wickedly, he watched her slide next to him and rub her breasts against his arm. With her tongue, she licked the outer part of his ear.
