Today on BBC news...

News reporter: Humanity always thought that zombies only existed in movies, books. That they were not real. But today it has become reality. Zombies are everywhere. Your closest family members could be turned into a zombie in the blink of an eye. Nowhere is safe. Nobody can be trusted. This is not a drill. This is not a prank. This is reality. A base for survivors has been set up. Run. Or die.

"What the hell? Zombies?" Xander threw the remote control onto the couch. "Dad! Do you know anything about zombies?!" Xander called out. No reply. "Ugh trust dad to over work himself in the lab again." Xander stood up and pushed open the doors of his father's lab. "Hey dad...? What?" A sight of his father shaking furiously met him.

"Dad? W-what's happening?" Xander asked, fear evident in his eyes. "It's happening. Son, take the keys on the table. Go to the underground base." His dad instructed. "Dad? Are you okay?" Xander was about to go near him to check on his father when the old man lashed out, "Don't come near me. Kill me if you must. I don't want to hurt you." "Kill you? Dad I can't kill you!" Xander said, shocked that his father would say that. "THEN GO! GO AWAY! GET AWAY FROM ME!" His dad cried out in pain.

Then it happened. His father turned into a mindless brain eating zombie that couldn't process words or feelings. Both his parents were gone. "I'm so sorry, dad. I love you so much." Xander looked at the screeching zombie who once was his father and smiled bitterly. All the family he knew was gone. Grabbing the keys, Xander vowed, "I'm going to get to the bottom of this."

Chernoa's pov

Well damn. Zombies, huh? That sounds fun. Killing zombies and all. "Dionne! Come on! We have to get to the base before it fills up!" I yelled to my younger sister. I had no more parents. I lost them to the apocalypse. How was I still alive you ask me? I killed them. Yea, I killed my parents. Only because they became zombies.

The blood on my hands.

The guilt I would have to bear.

How unfilial I am. To kill my parents just because they became zombies.

No. I told myself. It was their wish.

Their last words before turning. "Kill us. We want you to be safe. Fulfil our last wish. We love you."

I bit my lower lip. I had granted their wish. In this new world, it's kill or be killed. There is no in between.

"I'm here, sis. Where are mom and dad? They have to come too, right?" Dionne looked at me innocently. The way she looked at me. The longing and hope in her eyes. I was not willing to break them. I would never be able to forget that  I had beheaded my own parents. If I thought that was courageous, I wonder how many ounces of me would it take to tell my own Sister I had killed them?

"They're gone." I mumbled. My sister looked at me, urging me to continue. My tongue was tied. No words came out. I wanted to say I was sorry and that it was their wish for us to remain safe, but I couldn't.

"It's okay. I understand." Dionne patted my back. No, you don't understand. You think they turned into zombies, but you don't know that I was the one that killed them. You would never forgive me. Someday, I'll tell you. I promise. I just want to protect us.

Holding the metal pole that was stained with my parents' blood and gut, I swallowed, "Get our bags. Let's go. It would not do to stay here any longer." Dionne nodded and handed me a sling bag which I carried. "What if we get attacked along the way?" My sister asked. "Then I will protect us. If anything happens, I want you to run to the base. Don't look back. Don't try to save me. Don't do anything. Just run." She was about to protest when I cut her off with a stern look. She nodded meekly.

"Dionne...you're the only family I have left. I don't want you to die. Or become a brain eating monster." I sighed. She engulfed me into a hug, "We'll be okay, right? You and I. You won't go anywhere, right?"

I smiled sadly, "That's a promise you and I both know I can't keep."
