Xander's pov

We were back in my father's lab. The place was in ruins. Papers and test tubes scattered everywhere. The table where I first saw a body was still sitting in the middle, beckoning for me to go closer.

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I walked forward and traced my hand over the table. Flashes of the body I had seen when I was kid playing through my head.

The body.

Was it an experiment? To create the zombies?

Was it really my father?

"Xan, there's nothing here." My cousin says. I could hear the team's feet shuffling against the rough floor, all in hopes of perhaps finding the cure. "I know there's something. Keep looking." I replied stubbornly. I wasn't about to be told that I was wrong.

Walking deeper into the lab, I see a huge machine. It looked like a time machine. A huge metal dome. But as I walked closer to it, I heard an ear piercing noise, threatening to break my ear drums. Instinctively covering my ears, screams erupted from my throat.

The noise getting louder, my ears becoming more painful. "Xan! Xander! What's wrong?!" Chyann's voice sounded distant.

What was that?

My father. He was standing right in front of me, smiling. He opens his mouth to speak, "Son, the cure is closest to you. This machine is an obstacle to the cure. Protect this necklace with your life. Don't let your uncle win." Father looks at the key around my neck. "It's important. Without it, even your uncle cannot open the chest he seeks. Now, go."

He placed his hand on my forehead, and darkness starts to swallow me.

Rie's pov

"Xander! What's wrong?" My cousin's eyes were bloodshot, his body shaking furiously, lips quivering as he shouted again and again, "FATHER! COME BACK!" What was happening to him? Seizure? After the whole scenario, he collapsed onto the ground.

"Xan!" I rushed to him, holding up his upper body, shaking him awake. "What's wrong with him?" Chyann looked at me, her eyes full of worry. "I don't know. He fainted-hey he's waking up!" Xander's eyes were fluttering open.

"Xander! What happened?"

His eyes widened. "Father! He was there! Right there! He- he said the cure is closest to us! And this-this key is what the master doesn't know he needs. I have to hide this key, so the master won't find it." Xander hands the key to me. "What? Why give it to me?"

"Help me hide it there. Under those buttons. It camouflages well. I can't go near it. I would faint again." He points at the big machine in which he collapsed in front of. I nodded, taking the key from him before concealing it with the metal.

"Well, you said the cure is nearby didn't you? Let's look around the lab. Perhaps walk deeper into the lab?" Wayne piped up. "Yea, like that weird ass safe over there that looks oddly suspicious." Chernoa pointed at a large metal case that looked like a min version of a vault.

"Xan, can you try and open it? There's a password on it and you may know the password."

"No promises, but I'll try." Xander shrugged before standing there, jabbing in numbers.

"Wedding anniversary? No."

"Dad's birthday? Nope."

"His lab's postal code? Nope."

"Then...my birthday?"

Everyone looked at him with bated breaths. "It's in!" As he opened the door of the vault, smoke started flowing out.

"Cliche much?" I heard Chernoa mumble to Wayne.

"It's a...blue substance?" Xander raised an eyebrow as he takes out two vials that contain a blue liquid.

"Anything else inside?" I ask.

"A book. The diary of Ian-my father? And a card."

Chyann took the card and read out.

"Time potion."
