Chernoa's pov
After much walking and breaks in between, we had finally reached the base. Wow it looked really high tech. Shiny white on the outside. It looked like your typical base. It was made of metal and it would surely keep zombies out so that was good.
"See, Dionne? We will be safe here, okay?" I assured my little sister who nodded. I walked forward to the entrance.
"Who's there?" A robotic voice could be heard from the speaker. "Err two survivors?" I said, uncertain of what to do. "Prove that you aren't zombies." The voice replied. My eyebrows creased, "Well I'm talking to you aren't I? Pretty sure zombies won't speak to you like that."
"Identity confirmed. Please step into the base where you will be well protected." The metallic doors swished open, and I beamed widely, holding my sister's hand while stepping inside.
We were greeted by a lady who introduced herself as Yara. She gave us two forms to fill in our particulars and details.
First form:
Name: Chernoa Chia
Age: 16
D.O.B (date of birth): 9 Sept 2003
Family members: Parents, deceased. Younger sister, alive.
Nationality: Singaporean
Second form:
Name: Dionne Chia
Age: 14
D.O.B: 8 December 2005
Family members: Parents, deceased. Older sister, alive.
Nationality: Singaporean
I handed the forms back to Yara. She looked at me. "Are you Chernoa?" She eyed me. "Yes I am." I raised an eyebrow, unsure of why she would ask me that. She looked at me again, but this time with sadness in her eyes. "Sorry to hear that. Good luck for tomorrow." "What's with tomorrow?" Curiosity was killing me.
"A group of 16/17 year olds will be sent out into the open to find a cure. Because it wouldn't do us any good to stay here. For the past 2 years we've already sent out 4 groups. None returned. You're 16. If you're unlucky, you'll be sent out. If you do, we will take good care of your sister. Good luck." Yara explained to me.
"2 years? Didn't the apocalypse start this year?"
"The apocalypse started long before you guys even knew."
"I see. I hope I'm not unlucky then."
"Yes, your sister still needs you."
I did not reply. I looked at Dionne who was looking at me sadly. "Are you going to go? I thought we were supposed to stay together." Her voice was coated with unhappiness. "I'm not going anywhere yet. It's not certain. I mean there could be many 16 or 17 year olds here right? Even if I really go, you'll be safe here." I ruffled her hair tenderly. "But I don't want you to go." "I'll see what I can do."
"So where do we sleep or eat?" I questioned Yara. "Here's the room key. Breakfast is at 7.30am, lunch is at 12pm and dinner is at 6.30pm. Your room is down straight and turn left. You will see room number 308." She explained. "Thank you." I bowed slightly.
Time skip to next day (A/N: cos I'm a lazy bij)
"All survivors are to report to the main hall at 8am after breakfast today for the announcement of the team that is going to be sent out today." The robotic voice that had checked our identity was heard over the speakers. This is it. Today is D-day. Please let me stay in the base. (A/N: but we all know that you aren't going to)
About half an hour later....
Everyone was gathered in the main hall. It was cramped and stuffy. A man stood at the front, with a microphone and a piece of paper he was looking at. "Hello everyone. I will now announce the teenagers that will be sent out today."
"First person. Wayne Lim. Age, 16. Date of birth, 14 June 2003. Family members, parents. Alive. Nationality, Singaporean.

The teenagers that have been called please head to the necessities room to collect your weapons and necessary supplies for the journey ahead. You may say your final goodbyes to your family members if you have. Good luck."
My heart stopped. I was chosen. I glanced at my younger Sister who seemed completely unaware of the situation. Necessities room. Okay. "Dionne. Let's go." I pulled my younger sister lightly. "Where to?"
I tried not to cry. "The necessities room."
