The sound of the door slamming shut just moments ago was still ringing through my ears along with the fresh noise of leather boots that clicked on the office floor. My head was no longer held up as my gaze fell to the floor rather than on him as it had been previously due to the suddenness of him entering and the shock I had been caught doing something I shouldn't.

He was now mere centimetres away from me as his rough finger, one of ten that I was sure had committed an unimaginable amount of sins in this place was placed under my chin tilting my head up to meet his eyes.

“You seem to have not heard me, I asked if you were reading anything interesting?” he asked in the demanding tone that he seemed to walk around sporting to everyone.

“I-I'm sorry, I was looking for the folder to check attendance in the labour room and I just got curious” I tried to explain, though I knew my words would have no use.

He leant against the desk and looked at me sceptically, eyeing me before he smirked at me.

“Well, Felicity. I'm sure you've heard that expression before: 'curiosity kills the cat' I believe is how it goes” his voice was full of spite and arrogance, it appeared he simply enjoyed hurting or threatening people just because he could. He strived from power and that I could so easily tell even though this was only my second encounter with him.

“What?” I gulped.

“I'm just saying Felicity, you should be careful what you take interest in, it could have shall we say.. fatal consequences”.

“So what? You're going to kill me for just reading through a file?” I spoke, knowing I was pushing my limits.

He pushed himself up and cornered me against the filing cabinet where I had committed a sin that seemed to be as evil as Eve's eating of the fruit.

Just reading a file? It isn't a matter of 'just', you don't snoop in things that aren't yours to snoop in. You should know your place, but it appears you don't” he scolded, his fist coming above my head as he slammed it against the cabinet. I nodded at him deciding it was time to obey, shut up and wish for everything that is happening to be over. He smiled at me, a wicked smile at that, before he moved away again and sat on the office sofa, his leg over his other as he leaned back; cockiness radiating off of his body.

“So you never told me if it was interesting? I mean can't you read a book or something? Do you have like a favourite you could fill your time with instead?” he asked.

“Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre is my favourite book sir” I told him truthfully. I had got a hold of the book last year when I found it down by the river near to my house, we didn't have many books and such so I read the book and have kept it safe since.

“You're similar to Jane in a way, she was described as such a plain, poor character; much like yourself if you think about it” he observed.

“She was plain and she was poor but she had great courage sir, if you are comparing me to that then I would be more than happy to listen to more of your interpretations” I replied, becoming irritated.

“Always have something to say don't you?” he questioned, narrowing his eyes on me.

There was a pause as I thought of how I could reply to him but he spoke again first.

“Well look at the time, I must get going; I've really enjoyed your company though, Felicity. Better put that file back though hadn't you?” he said suddenly getting up from where he was sat.

“Y-you're not going to hurt me?” I asked, timidly.

“Not today, but I suggest you don't get caught doing things you shouldn't again. You're already in edgy waters because of your father”.
