Final chapter. Enjoy.
The room Harry and I had been left in was small and slightly cold. There was a mattress in the corner and a toilet room to one side. It was a world away from the comfort Harry knew in the Upper Half but for me having spent weeks in a freezing, stone room, sleeping on the floor, it was paradise.
We both sat on the mattress, our shoes taken from our feet as we tried to gain as much comfort as possible. I sighed in relief at the soft feeling of the mattress. It was blissful, I could've lay back and fallen to sleep right away.
"I wonder why they put us in this place," Harry spoke out what we were both knowingly thinking. He observed our surroundings, an indecipherable expression on his face.
"I don't know," I shook my head. "It's probably another one of their games."
Harry sighed, "Maybe. But let's not dwell on it. We're here together, I don't want to ruin that fact." And he was right, there was no point pondering over what might happen for the moment because we were finally alone together for a prolonged time and we should appreciate that.
"Me neither," I agreed, shaking my head.
"I missed you, you know," Harry said, changing the subject.
"I do know, you told me earlier," I muttered. My words were shaken slightly by the remembrance of Veronica telling me she'd slept with him. I didn't feel particularly angry at Harry just a little insecure that he might have been with her whilst I was gone because I wasn't there and he was bored whilst she was easy.
Harry seemed to notice my distance as he spoke reassuringly, "Hey, Fliss, we'll be okay, I promise." His words indicated he thought my worry was as a result of fear towards what was to happen now.
I nodded in response, but he still wasn't convinced. He pulled me closer to him, moving a stray strand of hair from my face. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"I'm just nervous," I lied but he didn't believe it and frowned at me.
"Fliss, don't lie to me. Come on what's wrong?" he urged looking at me with a serious face.
"Okay," I sighed. "When I was down there, I had a visit from Veronica," I began to explain, uncertain on where to even start to explain.
Harry's eyebrows scrunched up, "Veronica?" he asked seeming confused.
I nodded, "And my Dad."
"Oh. You never speak about your Dad. And why would he be there with Felicity?"
"You know about his affair don't you? It seems to have been important to my fate in the Halfway Point," I spoke remembering the conversation I had overheard on my first day.
"Err.. Yeah I do know about it," he replied awkwardly.
"Well, it turns out that the woman he had an affair with was Veronica's mum." Once finishing my explanation Harry appeared shocked, his eyes widening and his eyebrows furrowing.
"Oh my god. That's, I don't know, surprising, I guess." He seemed shocked although I couldn't help but feel he must've already known. He knew Veronica and as everyone knew about the affair surely he must know who it was with. I brushed over it however as Harry asked me another question, "Your Dad.. Did you see him?"
"Yes. He tried to act as if things were normal. He didn't even seem to care that I was locked in some shithole underground." Tears threatened to spill from my eyes as Harry looked at me sympathetically.
"So Veronica is like your step sister then?" he wondered aloud, needing confirmation as he pouted his lips slightly.
"Yeah Veronica," I replied. I couldn't help but ask if what she said about sleeping with Harry recently was true but upon hearing my question, he seemed frustrated.
