I wasn't necessarily surprised by Harry and Veronica, more just shocked. Shocked that Harry would choose his office, when someone such as myself could walk in at any moment to catch him in the act with Veronica. I wasn't surprised that Harry had chosen her, she wasn't much older than him it appeared and she was attractive by the standards around here so why shouldn't he? Yes, he was engaged but I don't think he could care much less for his soon to be wife. Then again, I wasn't sure why my mind was trying to justify his behaviour as it had nothing to do with me.
I had barely moved since I caught them moments ago, still standing in the doorway of the office. I was unaware of just quite what to do and it wasn't long before Harry noticed me, looking at me in what appeared to be embarrassment as he tried to get Veronica off of him. She ignored his efforts as she kept moving against him, the sight making me cringe as I finally moved from my spot and hurriedly picking up the papers that had fallen from my hands. I turned around and walked out, shutting the door behind me, awkwardly standing outside wondering where I should go.
However, my wondering needn't last long as the door suddenly opened once again. Veronica rushed out, (thankfully dressed now) appearing humiliated and angry at Harry as she swore at him a few times and then ran down the corridor. Harry was soon to follow as he rushed out frantically searching the corridor before spotting me the opposite side of the door to what he had seen.
He just stopped, leaning against the wall adjacent to me and looking to the ground. He was dressed once again, but only partially as his shirt was lazily done up with his tie and blazer probably still thrown across the room in his office somewhere. He remained silent for a few minutes as he just stood breathing heavily.
I coughed purposely before interrupting the quietness. "We should probably get back in the office". I walked towards the door, entering back into the office, this time met by no sight such as before. Harry's footsteps were behind me as he followed me inside and shut the door.
"I did the labour room, one of the girls was missing" I muttered, passing him the paper.
"Oh god, this day just gets better doesn't it?" he huffed. "I'll have to ring through to my father soon, brilliant" he murmured, rolling his eyes in sarcasm. Then he just threw the paper on to his desk, burrowing the task under more papers. He turned towards me, furrowing his eyebrows in dismay.
"Felicity about what happened before, I-"
"Look Harry, just don't talk about it. I don't want to embarrass you".
"But I want to explain myself" he spoke coming toward me so he was standing close in front of me. "She came on to me and I just got carried away, I'm sorry" he began to explain, confusing me as to why he felt he needed to tell me why he was doing what he did.
"Harry, you owe me no explanation. Let's just change the subject".
"Yes I do Fliss" he spoke quietly.
"Why?"
"I just don't want you to think of me as someone who goes around fucking people all day, everyday".
"I don't" I said bluntly. "And even if you did, it's none of my business and who could blame you. She's attractive, you're a young guy. I'm sure all your friends would love to be you".
He just chuckled at me. "Friends? I don't get to have friends".
"I doubt that".
"Well don't doubt me because you have no idea how it is for me. You probably think it's all parties and money and girls but it's far from it. I have about as much choice in my life as you do". He seemed to be angry by my words and I couldn't help but feel he was over exaggerating about how hard done by he was.
"Well, you don't know about my life either" I argued back.
"Maybe not, but I see more of your life than you see of mine" he snapped.
I sighed. "What is your point Harry?" I asked and he looked at me, inching a little closer to me as he huffed. He bought his arms up, placing his hands on my shoulders gently.
"I'm sorry, okay. I just didn't want you to see that" he spoke.
"It's fine. And don't be embarrassed. Compared to some of the other things that happen here, it's fairly mild" I spoke, laughing a little.
He smiled at me before bringing me towards him and wrapping his arms around me. I had no idea what he was doing but I kind of went with it as I took some comfort in his actions, having had an eventful day so far. His hand rubbed small circles into the small of my back as I heard him sigh. "Why are you hugging me?" I asked suspiciously.
"Because I'm sorry" he mumbled.
"Stop saying you're sorry, you have nothing to apologise for".
"I guess" he spoke, pulling away and shrugging. His frantic apologising became annoying as he had no reason to tell me he was sorry.
I suddenly had a thought, "someone probably saw you and her you know, what with the hidden cameras" I said in realisation.
"I destroyed that camera Fliss. I'm not stupid, do you have any idea what my dad would do if he found out I'd cheated on Morgan?" he stated.
"I think I could take a guess" I responded, not oblivious to the behaviour of his father. "And I'm kind of glad you destroyed that camera" I admitted.
"Me too" he sighed.

Today at the Halfway Point had been nothing but stressful from start to finish. From seeing the girls outside of that building across the square, to the hidden camera, to the girl missing from the labour room check, the encounter with Harry's father, Veronica on top of Harry and of course, the sudden and unexpected hug Harry decided to embrace me in. It had not really been the best day and I could sense that it was going to remain so as I made my way through the gate that divided the Halfway Point and the Lower Half.
My shoes were so uncomfortable and I just wished that I could wear some normal clothes that actually made me look like I was from the Lower Half rather than all this horrible business wear with ridiculous make up and painful hair dos.
When I first entered my home it was eerily quiet and I could sense something was wrong. Something just didn't sit right.
I pulled the uncomfortable heels from my feet, and sighed in relief. However this momentary delight was interrupted when I remembered the negative energy in the air and heard my mother shouting at me from the back yard.
I hurried to where she was, saddened, shocked, and pained by what I saw. Zac, my innocent 9 year old brother lay on the floor, his white t-shirt stained with blood as my mother held him in her arms.
"Mum?! What's happening?" I yelled.
"He's been shot!" she screamed, weeping with him in her arms.
"Oh god, come on let's get him to the medical centre" I spoke in a frantic rush as she leapt to her feet and we rushed through our house, out of the door and to the main street outside where we would run to the medical centre. Despite the limitations of living here, we did get a medical centre and right now I was extremely grateful for that.
Seeing someone you loved so dear, so hurt was so numbing and as we arrived in the medical centre, a medic hurried to us as we had barely stepped over the threshold of the door, my body weakening at the sight of the young boy so lifeless. The medic took him from the arms of my mother as I stood and watched helplessly whilst they took him into a separate room leaving, my mother and I in a small waiting room.
We sat on the uncomfortable leather chairs, staring at the plain white walls, with nothing to be said. Our silence spoke more than our words and as tears fell from the eyes of my mother and my own, I felt a sudden pang of guilt as I thought over and over of Zac being shot. I had a weird feeling and inquisition that it was something to do with me, I just knew that someone targeted Zac to get to me and I had no doubt it was someone from the Halfway Point.
A/N: this isn't brilliant and it's really short but I didn't wanna keep jumping around. Anyway, thanks for reading. Please vote and comment.
