I stood frozen still, completely unsure what to do. Who? What? The note was still in my trembling hand and I just couldn't comprehend anything as I read over the message, again and again.
"Fliss," Harry sighed from beside me. I could see him in the corner of my vision appearing as confused and shocked as I.
"I just- I." I couldn't even finish my sentence as I began to speak. When I eventually looked over to Harry properly he was also evidently distressed as he had begun to tug on his hair and pace back and forth.
"Who did this?" I asked.
"How am I supposed to know?" Harry expressed, flailing his arms in the air at my stupid question.
"I-I don't know," I said. Harry sighed and moved himself across the room before slumping into his chair heavily, his stress evident.
"What do we do?" he suddenly asked after a moments silence.
"Stop. I guess? But it's not like we even know what this is about, it could be to do with us, or perhaps it's the rebellion?"
"I don't think it's the rebellion," Harry answered honestly.
"Why?"
"I just don't think it's that," he shrugged morosely.
"So what you're saying is that someone knows about us, whatever we are."
Harry huffed, frowning and nodding slowly. "Yes. I mean, I guess we haven't been as careful as we should have been, it seems plausible." He leaned forward in his seat and brought his hands to his face distressingly.
"So what now?" I wondered aloud.
"I don't know." He shook his head and appeared as if he would speak again but was interrupted when the door swung open and in strutted Morgan, his fiancé.
"Great," Harry muttered under his breath only loud enough for him and I to hear. I reassuringly smiled at him.
She appeared as snotty as always, her short dress accompanied with a long coat and high heels, her nose held high in the air. "Hey babe," she greeted, walking around the desk and over toward him.
She leant against his desk and ran her hands along his tie, long fake nails digging into the material. "Hey," he spoke with no interest at all.
"I've missed you," she whined.
"You saw me this morning." He rolled his eyes.
"I know, but you're my fiancé Harry, I want you all the time," she said. Bending down, she used Harry's tie to pull him forward and tried to kiss him. He completely ignored her though, moving his head away from her.
"What's wrong with you?" she urged.
"You. Just get off of my case for once," he stood up for himself. He looked to me as if in desperation which Morgan appeared to take note of as she turned around and acknowledged my presence for the first time since she entered.
"Is it cause she's here? It is isn't it?" she asked. She gave no chance for Harry to answer though as she turned to me with a scowl.
"Can you like leave? We'd really appreciate some alone time?" she spoke to me but I was still too taken aback by the note that was in my hand to care.
Harry was quick to stand up, and move away from Morgan, coming to address me instead. "Don't leave Felicity, you stay right here, go sit down?" he suggested noticing the fact I was still stood up, frozen in place.
I nodded and moved to sit down as he suggested.
"I don't know why you're being like this because you were quite happy to have some alone time with me last night weren't you?" Morgan asked Harry smartly. I looked up to him with a frown. I can't act surprised at Morgan's words I mean they are engaged and whatever Harry and I have is nothing really. I guess. Despite these thoughts however, my eyes began to water at how overwhelmed I was at the situation and how everything was just going wrong.
Harry's immediate reaction to her words was to look to me, something which I was unsure how to interpret. Noticing my upset state, his face dropped.
"Morgan, please I have things to do," he tried.
"Fine but I just wanted to discuss some things about the wedding," she spoke.
"Okay. Whatever you want for the wedding fine, you have it," Harry spoke trying to get her away quickly. He walked her towards the door and did his best to usher her out as soon as possible.
"Bye," he waved her off just before he shut the door quickly behind her. When she had finally gone, he leaned against the door breathing heavily and looking at me obviously.
"Fliss," he sighed. "What she said I-"
"No Harry, it's fine," I began. "You have nothing to explain to me, she's your fiancé." Even though I said this, there was a part of me that cared far too much.
He frowned before pacing across the room and sitting next to me. "Yes I do. I'm sorry about her. I don't want to marry her, I really don't."
"I know," I answered.
"What?"
"I know you don't want to marry her. You've made it perfectly clear before Harry," I explained.
"So you aren't bothered by what she said? About.. last night?" he asked hesitating.
"Why would I? I can't stop you from anything Harry and it's not the first thing on my mind right now. It's this," I said, holding up the note.
"Right," he sighed. "About that, let's just be more careful okay? We're probably not best at subtlety."
"Yes," I agreed.
"And in the meantime," he spoke. "Keep a close eye out on whoever it could be that sent this. Yeah?" He took the piece of paper and placed it beside him.
"Okay. So you have no idea who it could have been?" I replied in curiosity.
"No, not really. I mean I have a few ideas but I don't want to come to any false conclusions."
"I suppose," I answered.
He smiled at me. "And Fliss," he drew me away from the thoughts of the mysterious note. "Please know that I don't want to marry Morgan, I know you said you understand but I want you to know for sure that I don't, like I seriously do not want to. I have to." He turned his nose up.
"And last night was so so stupid of me, I guess. I mean she is my fiancé but as you know I don't like her. I'd much rather it'd have been you."
His words were laced with lust and unsure of the situation I blushed, and my heart raced. "Harry," I said playfully and rolled my eyes.
He just chuckled at me and moved closer, so his lips came close to my ear. He playfully brought it between his teeth, his breath warm on my skin. "It's true though baby. I'd much rather it had have been you," he spoke leaving me flustered whilst he smirked.
