JOHNNY ORLANDO rearranged the store-bought flowers carefully, tugging at the red ribbon that wound around the stems. the bunch of roses sat elegantly on a box of chocolates - lily o'briens - mackenzie's favourite. it was after a week, and johnny missed mackenzie, even though did fight a lot.
he pretended this didn't happen every other day. after all, they made up every time. so why was he so unsure? it would be just like every time, right? ..right?
he took a deep breath, and rang the doorbell. madison, mackenzie's elder sister was the one who answered the door, looking slightly confused, yet, she had a confident smile stretching across her lips.
"johnny? what are you doing here? i thought you guys were fighting?" it was obvious what the word she didn't mention but she wanted to say was: "again?"
"uh yeah," johnny scratched the back off his neck awkwardly, "but i wanna make it up to her. i miss her - a lot." madison didn't say anything. the only sign that she heard him at all was that her left eyebrow was raising higher and higher.
"oh, really? interesting.." she mused, the eyebrow now disappearing into her hairline,"weren't you like, oh, i don't know, fucking nadia turner three days ago?"
johnny choked on oxygen. "t-three days ago? it was four!" he protested, shifting uncomfortably at the fact madison was left with only one eyebrow.
"i don't really care, to be honest. but what i care about is, is that fact that you two are basically tearing each other apart. this isn't healthy, and i don't want to see my baby sister's broken heart being shattered even more."
"nadia and i?"
madison rolled her eyes so hard he was almost sure she could see her brain. "i have no idea what my baby sister sees in you. you're clueless and idiotic 27/9. obviously it's you and mackenzie!"
"ohh. uh, i-i promise i won't." johnny stuttered. "hurt your sister," he didn't add the same word madison didn't say the last time; the word 'again'.
madison's eyebrow shot back down so fast he almost missed it. scoffing, she threw back her head and laughed. "i find that quite hard to believe." she chuckled bitterly, dark amusement lacing her words. "but, if you ever come back again, i want you to tell me all the things you did wrong, and actually believe it," she paused, "i don't want you promising me empty promises and feeding me false lies anymore, orlando," madison said threateningly, "and i know she does it too, but so do you. and if you're using that as an excuse, why do you keep running back to her?"
before johnny could react, she slammed the door in his face.
