MACKENZIE ZIEGLER rolled her eyes when she heard footsteps behind her, and she halted to a stop. she only wanted peace and quiet for five minutes, and she couldn't even have that. the scowl on her face became more apparent when she realized it was the one and only johnny orlando.
"hi..?" he mumbled awkwardly, leaning against a locker. he shoved his hands in his pockets, peering up at her through his eyelashes. mackenzie inhaled shakily before returning to her stone-cold mask, shooting daggers at him. her mouth curled up with disgust.
"what the hell do you want?" she sneered.
"you." he didn't seem embarrassed by his answer. instead, he was staring intently at mackenzie's astonished face.
mackenzie huffed, blowing a strand of brown hair out of her face. she didn't have time for this. the only reason she left was because she had to face, had to interact, with johnny orlando, who was standing there, like an idiot.
he used to be your idiot.
mackenzie pushed the thought away, a bitter taste left in her mouth.
"cut the bullshit, orlando. you didn't want to say anything before, so why now? why, just after a rehearsal?" she narrowed her eyes at johnny suspiciously.
"it's also lunchtime, you know, right?" he pointed out, ignoring her first question. a smug look washed over his features, sticking there like honey when mackenzie sighed in defeat.
"make it quick. i don't have all day," mackenzie scowled, crossing her arms and leaning against a locker, mimicking the blonde's actions.
"i'm sorry."
mackenzie could barely process the words. this.. this wasn't johnny orlando. the cocky, arrogant jock who always thought he was right.
"t-that doesn't change anything. that doesn't make it right." mackenzie said slowly, hearing the shock in her voice. johnny nodded, like he expected that answer.
"i know it doesn't. but i'm gonna try," johnny said, his face so determined it almost mackenzie laugh.
"what's the point in that?" mackenzie laughed, unable to stop the amusement from lacing into her words. "honestly, you'll be wasting your time."
johnny stared at her, like the answer was obvious. "if it isn't obvious enough already, i still like you. i'm gonna show that i won't stop at anything to get you back."
"i'm not a toy, orlando. i'm not something that you leave and then come back to when you're bored again," mackenzie laughed again, but it was a bitter one. it reminded her of the coffee she had earlier on during the morning.
"and you didn't deserve to be treated like one. i'm sorry for treating you like shit. i'm sorry for acting like you were a toy to satisfy my personal needs. i'm sorry for cheating on you in multiple occasions. i'm sorry for everything." he edged closer with each word.
mackenzie was tempted to push him away and shout "LIES!" at his face, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. he seemed so sincere. he had to be, unless he was the world's greatest actor known to mankind.
he reached even closer, somehow, until she could practically his breath ghosting over her lips.
"may i?" he whispered.
he was intoxicating. addictive. it wasn't fair how attractive he looked at this exact moment, his green eyes half lidded and watching.
mackenzie swallowed, her tongue darting out to moisten her lips. it was unintentional, but her tongue accidentally flickered over the other's lips. it barely grazed johnny's, but his gaze seemed to intensify.
he looked at her expectantly, like waiting for a signal. i'm ready whenever you are, his eyes seemed to be saying.
screw it, mackenzie thought.
she crashed her lips onto his.
