Colson and I sat at a table by the window alone, across from each other. Rook, Slim, and Baze had taken a table farther over from us. I knew they were here for his protection in case someone tried to start anything with him. I couldn't help but send a confused look over at Baze. I had known him for a year and not once did I ever think he could be involved with Rick Ross and his gang.

Baze must've felt my gaze on him as his head turned our way. He gave a small smile and wave, that I returned. That gained Colson's attention and he looked over then back my way.

"You know Baze?" he asked interested.

"Yes." I looked over at him, his blue eyes staring straight into mine.

I sat back as the barista brought over our coffee's, sitting a blueberry muffin in front of me and a bear-claw in front of him. I smiled up at her as I picked up my coffee, taking a sip.

"So, your best friends a cop huh?" Colson asked, causing me to smile.

"She is. Make you nervous?" I rose a brow.

"Please." He scoffed, pulling a piece off his bear-claw. "Cops don't scare me anymore."

"Hmm. What does?" I asked, taking a bite from my muffin, looking across the table at him.

"Trade secrets babe. You ain't down yet." He smiled, popping a piece of his donut into his mouth.

"Like I want to be anyways." I sighed, taking a sip of my coffee.

I noticed an older man standing at the counter, eyeing me. I cleared my throat, knowing he was studying my face, judging. I looked down as Colson turned around, eyeing the man who quickly looked away, no doubt thinking he was my man and I was in an abusive relationship.

"Nice." I sighed, suddenly wanting to hide back inside my apartment.

"Look, people stare, I can't help that." he replied as if he had no idea why the man was looking.

"He's staring because of my face you idiot." My eyes wandered out the window and the realization of my words washed over him.

"I can never express how sorry I am for what I did. I just-" He let out a breath and leaned more on the table as he spoke, I kept my eyes on the window. "When I saw you, memories from the past came up. Anger from the past, and I just reacted because of other shit that's been going on."

"Your anger at the past has nothing to do with me." I finally looked up at him.

"I know that." He took a deep breath and looked down at his hands. "Tessa, I just never imagined Jimmy would leave you."

"Well believe it." I said without any emotion, taking another bite of my muffin.

"It doesn't effect you at all?" He asked, watching me as I shrugged my shoulders. "Dude, you two ran Southern California. You where his everything. The fact that he left you that easily doesn't strike you as odd? Because it makes no fuckin' sense to me."

"Look, despite what you may think, I don't care about him anymore. The bastard has been gone from my world for 6 years and that's actually a blessing. He did me a favor by leaving me."

"Did he ever tell you why?" Colson asked.

"No, he just left with his precious daddy." I was growing irritated. "Why do I feel like I'm being interrogated? What is this?" My voice rose a bit.

"Chill." He looked around, as I did noticing everyone's eyes on us. He shook his head towards the table the boys were at, they instantly went back to their conversation. "Tessa, you've been in Cleveland for 6 years and nobody has laid a finger on you, don't you think that means something?"

"No." I scoffed looking at him. "I'm just a lawyer Kels, I'm nobody special."

"Don't say that." He shook his head, keeping eye contact with me. "You mean more than you think."

"Stop it." I whispered.

"Stop what?" he smiled.

"Stop this, whatever it is your trying to do."

"I'm trying to make sense of this and trying to make you understand something. Your just too damn stubborn to listen. Your a true lawyer now."

"Then stop pussyfooting around the shit and lay it out there." I shot out. I rose a brow as he began chuckling, shaking his head as he looked down into his coffee. "What?"

"That's the girl I remember." He smiled looking back up at me.

"I swear I'll walk out of here right now Mr. Baker." I threatened.

"Aight, aight chill." He shook his head and looked back into my eyes. "Before I get into story time with you, can you answer me one more thing?"

"What?" I groaned.

"He's never once tried to contact you?" I watched his eyes become serious.

"No, and I thought he was probably dead." I replied honestly. His sudden change in demeanor caught me off guard, making me a bit worried. "What's going on?"

"Aight, look," Colson looked around to make sure no one was near us as he leaned forward and started talking so only I could hear. "I had no idea that you were a lawyer aight? I never even knew you were in Cleveland until I laid eyes on you a few weeks ago."

"Excuse me?" I asked.

"Some members of JOS were spotted in town by some of our crew. Pops took note of it and brought it to my attention. We stayed back and observed, noticing they were quite interested in Brenfield and Myers. So I did some investigating and bam, when I saw your picture I knew why."

"Oh my god." My breath caught in my throat as Colson told me all this.

"We rolled up on them and they backed off, fleeing town but not before throwing a call in to the Cleveland PD getting Rook, Slim, and myself busted. I seized the opportunity to get you as our lawyer to keep an eye on you. I thought that maybe you were working undercover for them, now I know different."

"You could've just asked instead of hitting me." I replied.

"I'm sorry. Pops is all I got and JOS is stalking round here for a reason. And now that I know what they want, I'm not too sure I want to let them have it." He spoke.

"What do they want?" I asked, raising a brow.

"I'm looking at her."
