The house was quiet, the only sounds I could hear was Colson and my breathing as our bodies tried to recover from the intense love making we just had. My head rested on his chest as my body laid over his. His arms wrapped around me protectively, rubbing soothingly up and down my back. I couldn't stop the smile on my face as I heard him begin to hum softly. I was so in love with this man to have only been with him for such a short amount of time. I didn't care what anyone else thought, this feeling was something I had never felt and I needed Colson more than I could've ever thought possible.
"Ya know, I always thought I'd be one of those guys that never settled down." His voice spoke, the vibration tickling my cheek a bit. "Like, one chick was never good enough for me because I thought love was over rated." I moved my head, resting my chin on my hand as I looked up at his beautiful face, listening. "I hurt a lot of women through the years and trust me, karma has kicked my ass too." I let out a small chuckle as he smiled, tucking some hair behind my ear. "What I'm getting at I guess is, I didn't stop to think about that shit before you. It was always about me and I didn't give a fuck who liked it and who didn't. Now, your the first thought in my head when my eyes open other than Cassie. You've made me a better man in many ways Tessa."
"You've always been a good man Colson," I whispered keeping eye contact. "it just took a little love to bring out the best of you. I love both sides of you because it makes you who you are."
"Would you love me if you knew half the shit I've done in my life?" he asked with a serious tone. "I've done some fucked up shit Tessa and I probably will again due to my lifestyle."
"Colson." I moved up more, our eyes level. "We've all got skeletons in our closet and we've all sinned. I can't judge you for sinning differently than I have. We're human baby." I ran my fingers through his short blonde hair. "I know your no saint, and I know how you make your money, and you want to know something?"
"Hmm?"
"I don't give a fuck about any of that." I smiled as his face lit up. "I know I should because of my profession but I don't. You don't put me in harms way and you always put my safety before yours, which makes me crazy." I kissed the tip of his nose, smiling more as his arms tightened around me. "You may not be perfect to some, but in my eyes you are. Whatever you did before me doesn't matter. Whatever you do pertaining to your business doesn't matter. What matter's to me is how we love each other, how we keep it real, and how we always make sure we put us first."
"Always." He smiled brightly up at me, leaning up to peck my lips. "I can't wait for you to meet Cassie tomorrow."
"I'm nervous." I giggled as he rolled us over so he was hovering over me now.
"Why?" He asked.
"Babe, it's always been you and her. She's never had to share you with another female before."
"True, but she's excited to meet you baby. She's not a brat despite what you may think." He smiled.
"You sure? Cause she is your child." I giggled as he pinched my side, biting his bottom lip.
"It'll be fine babe, trust me."
Suddenly a loud pop rang out through the house, causing me to jump and Colson to lay his body over mine. I wrapped my arms around him, gasping as more loud pops rang out, knowing they where gun shots.
"Colson." I gasped.
"Shh." He whispered in my ear before he sat up, reaching in the drawer beside the table and pulling out a gun.
I watched him as he pulled on a pair of yellow sweats and moved towards his bedroom door gingerly, quietly opening it a crack and peeking out. I sat up in the bed, holding the sheet around my nude body, my breathing erratic and able to hear my heartbeat in my ears. It had been a long time since I had been in the presence of a gun, much less in the middle of a house that was under fire. I looked beside the bed on the floor grabbing one of Colson's hoodies and pulling it over my head as I watched him, pushing the door open a bit more.
