"Aaron! Aaron! Aaron, wake up!" I wake up to Mom shaking me awake.
"Mom? Mom, what's wrong?" She is breathing heavily but has a smile on her face.
"Nothing but your sister is coming." I look at her and smile, then start to panic.
"Oh my gosh! Mom, what do we do?"
"Don't worry, father. Is getting the stuff? We were ready for it this time." I looked at her strangely.
"You were a month early, and it was the middle of the night. We were not ready. But we were glad you came." She smiles sweetly, and I smile back.
"Come on, I'll help you downstairs," I say, getting up and helping her downstairs. When we get there, Dad is standing there with Uncle Rhodey.
"Hey, Rhodey is gonna stay with you for a while. Just until things start, and because it's three in the morning, you must sleep."
"No, Dad. I want to go. I want to be there. Please?"
"Aaron-"
"Dad, please. I want to be there. Please."
"Sweety, not a lot is going to happen," Mom says as she puts her hand on my shoulder.
"Mom, please. Please."
"Aaron, how about we make a deal?" Dad says.
"What?" I say, looking at him.
"How about you stay with Rhodey-"
"Dad-"
"No. No, listen. You stay here with Rhodey, and I'll call him when it gets closer to time." I look at my shoes, knowing that is probably the best deal I'll get. I sigh.
"Ok. Can I help her to the car, at least?"
"Yes, yes, sweety, I would love that," Mom says as I help her to the car.
(Tony's POV)
"He is trying to be such a man," Rhodey says as Aaron helps Pepper to the car.
"Yeah, he is Rhodey. I don't want him to grow up too fast."
(Aaron's POV)
I helped Mom get to the car and opened the door for her. "Thank you, sweety. You know this is the same car your father and I drove to the hospital when I was in labor with you." I smile.
"I didn't know that mom. That's cool." She smiles, and a contraction hits her.
"Mom? Are you ok?"
"Yeah, it's just a contraction. Your sister wants to come and see her new world." I smile at her, and she smiles back. I can see she's in a lot of pain. Dad comes out, and I kiss Mom. Then they leave, and Uncle Rhodey puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Come on, Aaron. You need to get some sleep." We go inside; I go to my room, Rhodey to the guest room, and I sleep.
☆☆☆
About three hours later, I feel Uncle Rhodey shaking me awake. "Aaron, Aaron!" I grow in response.
"Come on, get up; your sister is coming!" I jump out of bed and quickly get dressed, and we run out the door. We arrived 15 minutes later, and they told us we must wait in the waiting room. So we do all we can to stay.
All I can do is think about how my life will change. But I'm happy. I will finally be able to say I'm a big brother officially. See, when I was 8, my Mom was pregnant, but something happened, and the baby died. It broke their hearts and mine too. But this will be different. About an hour later, a doctor comes out.
"Are you Aaron?"
"Yes! Is something wrong? Is my mom ok? Is my sister alive?"
"Aaron, calm down and let the man speak!" Uncle Rhodey says, trying to calm me.
"Your mother and sister are fine. Your father asked me to come and get you, to bring you in." I smile and follow him into the hospital room where my mom, dad, and sister are. But I only see my mom, so I rush over to her and sit on the bed next to her.
"Mom? Mom, are you okay?" She opens her eyes, smiles, and then runs her hand through my messy bedhead.
"I'm fine, Sweety. I'm glad you're here."
"Mom, I wouldn't have missed it for the world." I smile, and then Dad comes over with a little pink bundle.
"Aaron?" I quickly stand up and look into her face. I have to see her! I have to know she's okay! He turns her so I can see her.
"She's perfect!" All I can do is stare, and then a stray tear rolls down my cheek.
"This is Bryella. Do you want to hold her?" I look at Dad, scared out of my mind, and he smiles.
"Here, sit down." Mom guides me back on the bed to hold my new baby sister. Then Dad comes over and places her in my arms, and I stare at her. She has the cutest little nose and lips. She moves in her sleep, and I see her little hands as she rubs her face. More tears roll down my face as I stare at her.
"Bryella," I say quietly. She then opens her eyes. She has Mom's blue eyes, and now that I look at her, she looks just like Mom.
'Wow, how much do I look like Dad?' I smile at her, and she smiles back.
"Hey, Bry, I'm your big brother. You might not understand what that means now, but you will one day. Part of it means that I will love you always and forever." She smiles at me again, and I gently kiss her forehead. Then I notice someone taking a picture. I look up to see Uncle Rhodey with his phone and a camera.
"The four of you are very photogenic." I laugh and start talking to Bry again.
"I told you he'd be a good brother," Dad tells Mom.
"You were right, Tony." 'Wow, Mom is saying that Dad was right? What kind of drugs did they give her?' Dad laughs.
"It must be the epidural talking." I hear Mom gently smacking his chest, and I chuckle.
"Daddy is going to get in trouble if he doesn't stop picking on Mommy," I tell my new little sister. She smiles, then yawns, and goes to sleep in my arms. I smile and think, 'My life will never be the same. But I think I'm okay with that.'
