Jack's p.o.v.
I uncomfortably shifted in my seat, trying not to wake Zach up. The only good thing about this was that Zach was fast asleep, and I'd very much like to keep it that way in an attempt to avoid an awkward encounter. I tried to steal a quick glance at Zach, but my eyes became fixated on him. Zach looked so adorable and at peace when he was asleep. I noticed him flinch, and murmur something under his breath. He looked like he was having a nightmare. "N-no, please don't leave me, I love you. Please, stay, I love you!" I saw a tear roll down Zach's soft rosy cheek, and realised he was crying in his sleep.
I tried to restrain myself, but couldn't bear to watch him in any sort of distress. Reaching out a hand, I gently shook Zach's shoulder. He lightly groaned, and murmured a single word. Who would've know that single word would break my heart. "...Jonah?" Zach asked, confused. He fluttered his eyes open, and as they landed on me, confusion and fear was evident on his face. "Wh-where's Jonah?" Zach asked, fearful. "With. Daniel." I replied through gritted teeth. I would never be to Zach what Jonah was to him, that was clear to me. But... I couldn't help but think of the words Jonah said to me. Was there a possibility Zach could ever feel the way I felt? Jonah would never just lie to me. I know him.
Looking over at Zach who was on the verge of falling back asleep, possibly in an attempt to avoid me at all costs, I nervously let out a shaky breath. "Hey, Z-Zach, can we... um, t-talk?" Zach's fearful eyes scanned the room, alarmed, for any sort of excuse to avoid me, allowing his eyes to look anywhere but me. I was tired of the way Zach had been ignoring me, and so, with a sudden surge of courage, I reached out to his chin and pulled his face towards me, so his eyes had no other place to look but me. Zach held my eye contact for a moment, invested in it. For a second, it was as if he was leaning in, but he suddenly pulled away. I sighed in discontent, leaving a silence, before Zach unexpectedly spoke up.
"Why do you do this to me, Jack?" My heart suddenly broke. His voice was soft and small, and I could hear the hurt behind it. Another small tear rolled down his cheek, but before he could go to wipe it, I lightly touched his cheek, my thumb gently rubbing away the tear. Zach sniffed, and turned his head away from me, causing my arm to drop beside me. Displeased at the limited progress I was making, a small huff escaped my lips. "Zach, just talk to me, please..."
He ignored my attempt at trying to reason with him and my pleading by scooting himself further away from me, and turning even more so that there was no way to get him to face me. I opened my mouth to speak again, but was interrupted by a crackling sound projected from the intercom speakers. "Hello, this is your pilot speaking, please make sure you have your seatbelts on as we will be landing now." With a sigh of relief, Zach put on his seatbelt and faced directly forward, refusing to even look at me. I reached out for his hand and grabbed it. For a second, he didn't move it, but after a short pause, he hesitantly removed his hand from mine.
As soon as the plane had landed Zach immediately shot up and scrambled over to me to get out. Grabbing his bag from the over-head compartment, he attempted to swiftly dart out the plane. He was stopped by my hand that had reached out and grabbed his arm, disabling him to leave.
Waiting for Jonah and Daniel to leave so that there would be no protest about me talking to Zach, I called out to Corbyn. "Yeah, what's up Jack?" he asked, looking at my hand that was still holding on to Zach's arm, as if worried he would run off at any given chance. Thinking about it, it did seem likely. "Me and Zach are just gonna have a quick talk for a second, we'll catch up with you and the others later, go on ahead of us." He nodded, going off to exit the plane, before stopping and turning around to us. "Oh, be quick, we have to get another plane really soon, and this time it's a public plane". He left without another word. I turned to Zach. Pushing him down in a seat. Sitting in the one opposite to him, I placed my head in my hands and sighed. "We need to talk." Zach nervously gulped, looking at the exit, wishing he could find a way out of this conversation, but he couldn't. not this time.
