The Goodbye Scene (Criminal Minds Fan Fic)

Chapter Nineteen

I sat impatiently in my seat, fidgeting about the waiting room as the team finally arrived. Hotch walked in soon after, taking off his vest and leaning up against the wall.

Garcia came too, Jordan was with her. She sat down beside me and held my hand as Prentiss paced the room. My heart was pounding, it raced every time a Doctor passed us in the waiting room; I prayed they were going to tell me she was fine.

I couldn't see JJ, she was no longer sitting on the chair opposite me and Garcia. I noticed Garcia crying and Morgan walked over, handing her tissue. He placed his hand on her shoulder and she glanced up at him, smiling.

Rossi sat there, quiet. He hadn't said a word since walking in. His hands were still stained red, he buried his head deep into his hands. Hotch was standing near him, his hands against his chin and he looked out of the window.

Jordan, on the other hand, wasn't phased. He sat up straight and checked a few things on his phone. I looked over at him on confusion.

Garcia let go of my hand and I put my hands out in front of me, staring at the dried blood. I wanted it off my hands, I started crying and shaking; wanting it to disappear. Morgan bent down in front of me, slowly lowering my hands.

''Reid, look at me'' He said

''Come with me, we'll get it off'' Morgan added

I shook my head, wary about leaving the waiting room in case a Doctor returned with news about Eve.

''We'll be two minutes'' Morgan urged

Morgan grabbed my hands and pulled me up, I slowly trailed behind him to the bathroom. I wondered if Rossi wanted to come with us, but he was still covering his face with his hands. I watched him until I could no longer see him.

Once I returned, I realised nobody had moved; except Prentiss who was still pacing. JJ still hadn't returned from where she had went to.

I sat back down and Garcia gave me a hug. I smiled faintly at her, breaking the hug and slouching in my seat as we all awaited the news. Evelyn and Frank came running in; heading for Jordan as he brought them into a hug.

I didn't realise Jordan was close with Frank, I presumed they were estranged like Eve and Frank were.

''Where's my baby?'' Evelyn croaked

She noticed me, looking more remorseful. 

''Reid'' She said, hugging me

Frank just looked at me and then at the ground. I didn't say anything to him and waited anxiously for the news. JJ returned soon after Evelyn and Frank arrived. She sat down and didn't reveal where she had disappeared to.

A doctor appeared in his scrubs in the door way of the waiting room. Everyone stopped talking, pacing and thinking. I stood up at the sight of him, swallowing hard as I watched his facial expressions morph into remorse.

''I'm so sorry'' He began

I shook my head, staring directly at him as he began to explain what happened. I didn't hear a word he was saying, it passed right through me. I was blocking out his words, but not the cries of Evelyn or Garcia.

''She lost a lot of blood, there was nothing I could do'' He said

I noticed Evelyn crying hysterically, Frank grabbed her before she dropped to the floor. He eventually fell with her and he cradled her as she cried out for her child. Jordan finally broke down, punching the hospital wall.

''I need to see her'' I croaked

''I'm afraid-'' He began

I ignored him and went to get up, trying to push back Morgan, who was trying to stop me. I heard JJ shouting at me to stop, saying I didn't want to see Eve like that. Morgan pushed me back down and tried to contain me as I started crying.
