Chapter Twenty Four

Garcia called me into her office, I walked in and smiled at her. She spun round in her chair, greeting me.

''Reid'' She said, smiling

 ''You wanted to talk?'' I asked her

Garcia nodded and I leaned on the desk. She got up and walked over to her bag, fishing something out. I looked down as I noticed she was holding a familiar ring box. I held my hand up, shaking it because I didn't want it.

''Garcia, no'' I said

''After everything you've both been through, you don't give up'' She replied

Garcia grabbed my hand, placing the box in it.

''You love her'' Garcia added

I took the ring and left, I put it into my pocket quickly upon seeing Morgan. He hurried me along to the conference room were the team had assembled for the latest briefing. I walked in and took the seat furthest away from Eve.

She sighed, closing her eyes briefly and paying attention once JJ started to talk.

''We're heading to a small town in Alabama this time'' She began

I grabbed the case file off the table, flicking through the pages of information that had been collected. We were informed off the two murders that had already taken place, both males in their mid 30's.

''A lot of over kill, the unsub took the time to hide the bodies, maybe a personal connection?'' Prentiss asked

''Wheels up in 30'' Hotch announced

We all stood up and dispersed, I began walking out as I caught sight of Eve. She smiled at me, but I quickly looked away. JJ approached me, tapping my arm and pulling me back into the conference room; Eve noticed, but looked away and began speaking to Rossi.

''Spence, I'm sorry'' JJ said

''For what? Lying to me about my dead girlfriend?'' I snapped

''That's not fair'' JJ began

''No, Jennifer, what's not fair is the way you all handled this'' I replied

''She didn't even want to come back, Eve didn't even want to come back to all of this'' JJ said, raising her voice

''What?'' I stammered

JJ's eyes widened, realising what she had said. She quickly took back what she said and walked away, back to her desk. I turned, seeing Eve still talking to Rossi; she glanced up upon noticing I was looking at her.

Hotch made us all leave and we sat on the plane, mostly in silence. JJ sat near Hotch, pretending to be busy with the case files. Garcia was up on the screen, alerting us of her recent findings and having the occasional flirt with Morgan.

''JJ, I need you to handle the press, we don't want the story to break just yet. Morgan, Prentiss, go to the coroners office. Rossi and I will go to see the parents and Reid and Eve, you go to the first crime scene'' Hotch announced

I glanced up upon hearing the pairings, I started to argue before Hotch made it clear it was his final decision. Morgan looked over at me, a worried expression forming on his face. I sat back in my seat, reading my book.

As we landed, Eve got off first. I noticed her struggling with the bag, running over to grab it for her.

''Thanks'' She whispered

I didn't say anything, taking the bag to the car. Hotch informed us an officer from the local department would be meeting us at the crime scene. Eve was driving, occasionally looking over at me.
