Chapter 17
"Hey guys what are you doing?" Elliot asks as he walks up to us.
Iza and I is sitting on two of the swings on the playground.
We've not said so much, just been sitting here, not knowing what to say.
"Nothing, just sitting", I mumble tired, because that's what I am.
I am tired. I'm tired of everything. It feels like I could lay down and sleep for ages.
I'm just so tired of hiding everything. Of what I am and what I can do. Especially from my family, the once that I can trust with everything.
I don't know... Maybe I should tell them, I mean I don't what to hide myself from the people I should feel most comfortable to be myself around. They love me no matter what.
But what I'm so scared. Maybe they won't see me the same way if I tell them?
I want to tell my friends, Elliot and Jake, but then Jake would know what I've done and maybe he wouldn't forgive me.
For now Iza is the only one I can be myself around.
"That sounds fun", Elliot chuckles and sits down on the third and last swing. "What have you been up to lately?"
Yeah Iza and I haven't actually told anyone that we're together. We just decided to keep it a secret for a while and it has been a couple of weeks now, with sneaking around. But to our defense we did not only sneak around to be together, we have tried to find out everything and with help from Mackenzie.
But I guess it's no use to keep our relationship a secret anymore because honestly, I can't deal with anymore secrets.
Iza looks at me and I nod.
"Well, Jaydin and I are together", she says and takes my hand.
Elliot falls backwards off the chair. I can't keep away my laugh.
"Wait seriously?" Elliot asks shocked as he stands up.
"Yep", I say.
"So that's why you've been so secretive?" Elliot asks and sits down again.
"Yeah", we both says even though we know that it's only half the truth.
Elliot's phone starts calling.
"Oh it's Jake, wait 'till he hears this", Elliot laughs and answers.
Jake.
My stomach turns inside out when I hear Elliot says that Jake's calls. Oh god here it comes. It's been a few hours now.
"Wait Jake what is it? Talk slower, I can't understand", Elliot says.
I frown and look at Iza. She looks at me frowning as well.
Poor Jake.
"Jake wait, yeah they are, okay yeah we'll come", Elliot says.
Wait what? Who's coming? I can't go near that house!
Elliot hangs up the phone and stands up.
"Come on, Jake wants us to come, he's panicking over something", Elliot says.
I feel sick over myself. What have I done to my friend? It's my fault this happen. But did it have a choice? Even if Iza hadn't done what she did, I had, so either way this would have happened.
But I had to do this. Mackenzie's family needs closure after all these years of wondering what happened to their daughter and sister.
All the families of the girls who has been killed by this man has to be able to get closure.
But I didn't mean for Jake to end up in the middle of anything.
"Why?" Iza asks sounding normal.
Wow she's good.
"I don't know, I couldn't hear what he said", Elliot says. "Come on".
I hold back a sorrowful sigh as I stand up and Iza follows because our hands are atill intertwined.
We start walking toward Jake's house.
When we arrive I can clearly see the whole in the house.
But there is also a lot of police cars and ambulances.
"What the hell happened here?" Elliot asks.
"I don't know, let's find out", I say.
We run up to the door and just open it and run in.
Jake stands in the living room with the rest of his family, looking out of a window to their backyard.
"Jake what happened?" Elliot asks.
Everyone turns around and looks at us.
The looks on their faces makes me feel sick to my stomach about myself. I've done this. This is my fault.
"Thanks for coming", Jake says. "My dad, the police came here and told us that he ... That he have murdered a young girl and that they suspect more bodies in our backyard".
"What?" Elliot, Iza and I say.
"What girl?" Elliot asks.
"Mackenzie Woods", he mumbles.
Elliot's eyes grow ten times bigger, and after I pinch Iza's hand, her eyes grow big as well.
"What?" Elliot asks.
"Yeah", Jake says.
"Oh no", one of Jake's brothers says pointing out of the window.
We all look out of the window.
Oh god. There really is bodies buried here. They dig up something, a body. A little girl.
Oh god now I feel even more sick.
I hear how Jake's mother starts to cry even louder.
Iza walks up to her.
"Come her Mrs Bibo", she says and leads her to the couch. "It'll be okay".
But how can it when she now know that she has been married to a murderer for so long and without even knowing that bodies are buried on her own backyard.
"It will be okay", Iza continues. "I promise".
