REAL LIFE brielle — right noah — left
ten short minutes after brielle received the text from noah she pulled up in front of his house. the time was around six-thirty in the evening as she gave noah's doorbell two quick rings. propped up on her shoulder was a medium sized bag that contained her laptop and a change of clothes for the morning since she assumed she'd probably be staying at his place for the night.
when noah opened the door the girl was met with a smile and a kiss from him.
"i missed you."
"i just saw you yesterday."
"(shrugs) still."
"(laughs softly) well, i missed you too."
noah led brielle into the kitchen after dropping her stuff off in the living room where he told her he had chicken nuggets and french fries baking in the oven. brielle immediately smiled upon hearing that because that was her favorite meal to eat when she was at noah's place. there was just something so simple and childish about the meal that made her happy.
the two ate on the roof, both of them sitting cross legged on the couch and the plate of food between them. they talked about a bunch of random things as they enjoyed their meal and when they were done brielle lay her head in noah's lap and stared up at the sky that looked like rainbow sherbet since the sun was beginning to set.
"hey, there's something i gotta tell you."
"what's up?"
brielle sat up from the position she was in and stared at the boy next to her, expectantly waiting for whatever news he had to share with her. the way he didn't hold her gaze and how he was fidgeting with the drawstrings of the hoodie he was wearing made her partially worried as she waited for him to begin speaking.
"so, remember how i went on some auditions a couple weeks ago and i told you that they went pretty good? well, i got the part."
"wait, really? that's great!"
the girl wasted no time in wrapping her arms around noah in a congratulatory hug. she could immediately tell by the way that he hesitantly hugged her back there was more to his news than she had initially thought, so she slowly pulled back from the embrace.
". . .but, um, filming starts in two weeks and (pauses) it's in canada, toronto to be exact."
"(softly) oh."
brielle didn't know a lot about canada, but she did know that toronto was far, far away from los angeles.
she took a slight pause after her one worded response but quickly recovered, placing a smile on her face as she decided to continue on.
"that's still great."
"you sure?"
a nod of her head was the only response that she gave noah. everything that he had just told her was still processing in her head, and the words "canada" and "two weeks" weren't sitting well in her stomach. the main reason for that being because she knew exactly what that was going to have to mean for their relationship.
"it's getting late. i should probably call my uber."
"you're not gonna stay the night?"
"i can't, i didn't bring any of my stuff. the only thing that was in my bag was my laptop."
the small lie came out of her mouth pretty effortlessly and noah didn't question the girl any further as she began pulling out her phone to order an uber.
in the first five minutes of waiting for the driver to arrive, brielle silently pretended that everything between the two of them was completely fine, even though she knew it really wasn't. she lay her head back in his lap trying to get back in that position she had found herself in, minutes ago, before noah told her everything.
she honestly just wanted to rewind back to that moment and not have noah tell her his news at all, and a soft sigh left her mouth because she knew that wasn't possible.
noah placed a hand on brielle's cheek and let his thumb trace small, soft circles around it.
"bri, i don't have to take the part. you know that, right?"
the fact that a small ray of hope began to run through her as noah said those words made brielle feel like a complete asshole. she did not want to be the reason that he held back from doing amazing things in his acting career.
"of course, you have to take it. when i saw you that night after you did the audition you seemed so happy about how it went and just the part, in general. so you've gotta do it. (smiles) i really, really want you to do it."
and she knew by her saying those words, it completely sealed the fate for the rest of their relationship.
