"life is either a daring adventure or nothing.''

Marigold Abbot woke up in excitement. Today is the day when the Cuthberts adopt a boy. The start of a new adventure brings joy to the young girl's heart. She rolled out of her bed and quickly threw on her blue dress that complements her crystal blue eyes. Quickly brushing out the couple knots in her hair, Mary ran downstairs, almost tripping on her own two feet.

"My god, child. Slow down before you hurt yourself," Marilla Cuthbert scolded, as she set the table for breakfast.

"I'm sorry, Marilla. My excitement is just too much to bear," She replied as washed her hands, "I mean, I think it's just marvelous how we get to have someone to go on this adventure called life."

"Yes, yes. It's wonderful. Now, if you could please use some of your energy and fetch Matthew."

The young girl went and open the door in the parlor. "Matthew!"

"I mean for you to go and fetch him," Marilla rolled her eyes in annoyance.

"Yelling can get the job done just as well," Mary said, throwing herself into her chair. Matthew Cuthbert entered the house, standing in the middle of the parlor.

"You'll want to hurry and eat if you're to meet the train on time," Marilla told him, "I pray this isn't foolishness... but it's too late now. We made a practical decision; we'll just have to hope for the best."

"I think the decision was more than practical, Marilla," Marigold said, covering her mouth to hide the food that she is currently eating, "You're helping a boy find a home while getting someone to help Matthew around the farm."

"Well, with any luck, Mrs. Spencer will have picked out a good one; a hard worker and obedient like we asked for. I couldn't tolerate a lazy boy or a sullen boy. No, I couldn't abide it and I wouldn't. I already get enough trouble from this one."

"I'm not lazy. Just bad at my job," Marigold mumbled.

"In spite of all the worry, I'm relieved to know that you'll have a regular hand about the place. You can't buy loyalty. You coming in sometime today?" Matthew finally walked into the dining room, heading for his seat before Marilla stopped him.

"Matthew Cuthbert, you must be in a state. Since when do you sit at the table without washing your hands?"

Moving to the sink, Matthew started to wash his hands. Marigold gave him a little chuckle, thinking it was amusing. Marilla continued, "Let's not forget you were the one convinced of this plan. You've been set on it since winter, so there's no point fretting now. Not that I disagree, because I don't."
