BASICALLY GIANT TRIGGER WARNING ON THIS CHAPTER
___
"Morning," Anne greeted Nate as her and Marigold entered his room, "Glad you're up. I didn't sleep a wink last night. To think that we've been walking on gold in Avonlea. I well understand your moral quandary. We're all so grateful and excited. Reading about gold is perfectly wonderful, but it would be even more wonderful if I could see it."

"Uh-huh. This sort of thing really isn't for children. But you're not just simple girls, now, are you?" Nate questioned as he glanced at the two girls.

"That sounds creepy," Marigold mumbled as she watched Nate adjust his microscope.

"Ah, there. Spectacular." He pulled away and gestured for the girls to look. Anne eagerly jumped at the chance to look.

"It is gold, isn't it?"

"Let your eyes adjust. Don't rush it. You might find it more beautiful than you imagined. See the tiny bits among the red, how they sparkle?"

"Why can't I see it?"

"Ah, it's not your fault, pipsqueak. In fact, it's mine, and I apologize. You just don't have an expert eye."

"Please don't give up on me," Anne begged before she looked again, "Oh, yes, there it is. You're right, Nate. The gold's exquisite."

"Anne, why don't you go and get a head start on the chores while I take a look," Marigold told her sister, who nodded before walking out. The blonde closed the door behind her.

"What are you playing at?" She asked harshly. Nate was taken back from her authoritative tone.

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm not blind, Nate, or dumb for that matter. You might have the town fooled, but not me."

"What are you on about?" Nate asked, clearly getting frustring from her line of questioning.

"There is no gold in Avonlea. You are trying to rob this town before hopping to the next. I read stories of people like you. The crooks that destroys towns and leaves a tragedy in its wake. If you think I will let this happen to my town you are sorely mistaken."

Suddenly, Marigold's back was pressed against the wall as a hand wrapped firmly around her neck.

"You know damn well that's not going to happen," He hissed. She spits in his face.

"I'm not afraid of you."

"And you think I'm afraid of a little girl? Sweetheart, I'm perfectly okay taking care of a little thing like you."

"I may be small, but I have a voice that's big enough to stretch all across Prince Edwards Island. One of my best friends is Mr. Barry's daughter and why wouldn't she believe me when I say her daddy's in business with a con artist?"

"Maybe if I say that the town's slut is just upset that I didn't accept her advancements and is adding slander to my name." Her eyes widened as he chuckled. "I have heard all the stories about you, Ms. Abbot. You like to get around, don't you? Spread your legs in order to get your way?"

"Those are just rumors. Lies put upon me to ruin my reputation. I've never done anything of the sort."

"Really?" He leans in closer, "Want to prove me wrong?"

TRIGGER WARNING:

"W-what?"

"Come on, sweetheart," He removed his hand from her neck and placed them hard on her shoulders. He leaned in and started to place sloppy kisses upon her neck, "Try to prove to me that you're not enjoying this."

"I-I'm not," She stuttered out as she tried to push him away, "Stop, Nate, please."

"Shh, you'll just make it worse." He kept one hand on her chest as they other reached down to unbuckle his pants, "Trust me when I say, I like a challenge. Besides, if you speak, I'm not afraid to jam a knife into the others. We don't want that, do we? Have Anne bleed out because of her sister's selfishness? Nonsense."

His coarse whisky tongue licked at her skin, stubby fingers curled in her hair. Every time Marigold closed her eyes he bashed her head backward onto the wall demanding she open them. She didn't want to, she closed them over and over, anything rather than watch his face lit up with with power and lust.

TRIGGER WARNING END:

It was only about six minutes, but to Mary, it felt like a lifetime of pain and terror that coursed through her body. Even after he pulled her away she still felt his hands over her. Like they were permanently tattooed on her.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart," He said to her as he pulled his trousers back up, "But you left me no choice. You shouldn't have tried to get involved. I mean, you did ask for it."

"A-asked for it?" Marigold questioned with a strained, quiet voice.

"Yeah, if you didn't want to happen you wouldn't have allowed it to happen."

"But I-I said no."

"You said no, but you still stood there and took it. Look, you're just upset because of corrupted morals, you're not thinking rationally. You wanted it. That's how everyone will see it, so there's no point in telling anyone."

As much as she tried to hold it in, the pain came out like an uproar from her throat in the form of a silent scream. The beads of water started falling down one after another, without a sign of stopping. She hit the wall and tried to scream, but her voice was melted by the sound of the place. The muffled sobs wracked against her chest. The world turned into a blur, and so did all the sounds. The taste. The smell. Everything was gone. The last painful emotion slammed against her before she lost the feeling of feeling. Everything darkened into nothingness as she passed into the oblivion of unconsciousness. The last thing she heard was Nate calling for Marilla, a fake concerned cast over his face as 'panic' lingered in his voice.

It seems like it got away with it. Breaking and harming a little, innocent girl who wanted nothing more than to help others. Hopefully, with time, he'll get what he deserves and Marigold...

won't think it's her fault.

A/N

Holy fuck. This chapter pissed me off and I'm the one who wrote it. But the thing at the end kills me because I see it happen so much. The girl gets blame for something so ugly and horrific and the man isn't. Especially with the manipulation shit to stop the girl from talking.

Man I hate society :(
