The Edge

Heiðr's POV

I had gone to the rainbow bridge, now fixed, where Loki had been hanging on, where Odin shattered what little remained of his heart.

I had always hoped to see this for myself, to feel the emptyness of such a vast opening. It was beautiful and scary, my legs dangled over the edge as I leant on my hands, a slight incentive to push myself off was lingering in the back of my brain.

"I would not suggest it." Heimdal stated, standing behind me.

"Nor would I, but I can not remove that small part of me that is curious to try, curious to see if I have the courage to let go as he did."

"It was not courage, but fear. He was afraid of what he was, what he had done."

"It is not his fault. You know that, right?"

"We are all to blame for our actions, but I do know he did not become that person on his own."

I gently laid back, staring at the sky, Heimdal looking up as well.
"I do not know how to save him. He will die, I intervened too early, I have damned him."

"Perhaps not. You have changed what is to be, you may have also changed what causes his death."

"No, that is already in motion. Ragnarok shall come, this place shall be destroyed, and Thanos will kill him, take his life, and leave but his shell."

"You have seen such things?"

"Yes. Thanos can not be stopped. I only wish I knew his weakness, I must sacrifice another to save him, but such a thing I could not do."

"You hold more knowledge than you can bare. You must learn that things will happen no matter what. It is difficult, a heavy weight to bear alone, but you are strong, you will find a way." He smiled at me, his golden eyes gave me comfort.

"I always knew I would enjoy your company."

"I am glad to hear it. There are not many I can speak to with contentment, so it is a pleasure to have you here."

We stayed there for a while, staring into the open abyss, with a comfortable silence, until I felt Loki farewelling Frigga.

"I must go, Loki is on the move and I must be seen with him always. Stay safe friend."

"You as well."

We smiled and nodded to each other, then I appeared beside Loki, as though I had been there all along.

"How did it go?"

"Quite well. She is informed on our situation."

"Truly?" I showed surprise.

"You know Frigga as well as I do. She will not speak a word."

"I know. I am just glad to hear you have mended things."

"Where did you go?"

"To the rainbow bridge. The silence of the stars was quite pleasant."

"Do you still love me as you did?" He asked casually, with no specific emotion.

"Always. I shall never be free. You will always have control of my heart, no matter how hard you try to return it."

"Is there no way to break this curse?"

"I must stop obsessing over your every trouble and action. I must leave you to your own devices and give up on changing your fate."

"So, once we have finished here and my title is restored, you shall be free?"
