Chapter 35: Alice

Few Months Later

*sonny's pov*

Nay and I sit on the couch planning David's 5th birthday party. "So we'll invite his friends Alice, Jason and Tristan" Nay said. I nodded. Alice was the only girl David wanted to come because she was the only one that didn't have "cooties"

It's gonna be decorated in Spongebob.

PARTY TIME JUMP**

His friends show up at the party.

Happy Birthday here, cake there, piñatas later. And now presents. Jason had gotten him Skylanders action figures. Tristan gave him Spider-Man pjs. And Alice didn't bring anything expect her grumpy Dad.

Alice had very short black hair and her eyes were more of a grey to be exact.

Once the party was over, Alice's dad left. Without Alice,"Wheres your daddy?" I asked her. "He said he doesn't want me anymore" she sniffled and almost fell to the ground.

I picked her up an she cried on my shoulder. "Sonny what did you do?" Nay asked. "Nothing. I promise. But her dad abandoned her."

*nay's pov*

My heart broke when I heard those last words. It reminds me of my real dad, he abandoned me and my mom. So one day she found Calvin and he makes her happy.

"What do we do Nay?". "Can we keep her?" I asked. It was the least we could do. He nodded and we had a huge group hug.

He set her down and she fell all the way to the ground and coughed up a little blood. "Sonny get her to the hospital now!" I screamed. He picked her up and grabbed David. We rushed to the hospital.

As she laid in the big bed, there were IV needles in her arms. It looked so painful just to see a small child at her age like this.

The doctor came in with his clipboard. "We've found out about the bleeding. She has cancer... I'm sorry".

I lost it. I fell into tears, I didn't know her much but she seemed like a child that I've been with for years.

"Is there anyway to help her?" Sonny asked as I gripped onto his shirt. "To be honest, for a child at her age having this condition only happens 1 out of 30 people. So they don't make the medicine for it anymore."

"There has to be away!" I cut in. "I'm sorry miss. We give her about 2 days to live at the most." And with that he left the room. I went up to Alice," I'll do my best to make this the best 2 days of your life" she let out a small smile.

"That's my girl, you stay strong". Another doctor soon comes in and takes the IV's out and sets her in a wheelchair.

I take it out to the car and we drive home. Sonny set David in his room and I rocked Alice to sleep in my arms.

When morning came pieces of thin hair was all over my body. I look up and see her standing in front of me with black stubble on her head.

"Hi miss Nay" she greeted me. "Hey Ali. Why are you up so early?". "Early?" Sonny butted in. "It's almost 1".

I got up and brushed myself off. "What's up for today?". I asked. "I made everyone breakfast. It's now lunchtime" Sonny said.

"Mcadonados!" we both yelled. (Ever seen the coffee run with Skrillex and Dillion Francis? No? Well that's why you don't get the joke. McDonald's....)

We drove there still in our pjs. We all shared the 20 piece chicken nuggets. And then we all ate ice cream.

On the car ride home, David kept saying,"Alice, Alice wake up" I looked back. Alice wasn't getting up.

Sonny quickly drove back to the hospital, we sat in that depressing room again.

She was set on a heart monitor. But she was still in my arms. "I love you Alice".

"I love you too Miss Nay".

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beeeeeep.

Her heart flatlined. It's over. She's gone. And she left in my arms, I hugged her tight.

"You'll always be a daughter to me"
