A Ride

I toss and turn for hours on end, my service dog Amy by my side. I finally just give up, throwing the covers off of me, and walk to the bathroom. I hear the pitter patter of my 120 pound German Shepherd following close behind me. I take a pee, then grab my phone off the nightstand after I ask Amy to cover me while I wash my hands. I quickly sit on the bed when I feel Amy's nose boop on my leg. An alert because I can hear someone coming down the hall, and it's late. Dean knocks gently and I give Amy her signal. She tugs the rope tied to the doorknob and lets Dean in. He thanks Amy, doesn't pet her, and goes straight to me. He sits down beside me on the bed and Amy lays at my feet with a huff. He asks, "Cant sleep?" All I do is shake my head, and sigh. He pats me on the back very lightly, and tells me to "grab Amy and come with me." I do as I'm told, grabbing Amy's American flag vest and securing it safely to her body. After I do that, I follow Dean out of the room, with Amy heeling perfectly beside me because she's now seriously in work mode. He acquires the car keys from off the large table in the Bunkers front room. Sam brings me Amy's leash that says "ANXIETY ALERT K9" in a repeating sequence. "Just in case we go somewhere," he says as I click it to Amy's American flag collar. "Thanks, but where are we going?" I ask. Dean smiles, "For a drive." Sam, Dean, Amy and I all file out of the Bunker and head to the impala.
After we're all in, Dean sets off on a nice 15 miles per hour drive. I'm so tired, and Amy is so warm next to me, and this ride is so relaxing that I'm finally able to sleep. Dean keeps driving for an hour until we reach the end of the very long road we're on. Dean stops, looks back, and sees me finally asleep. He laughs a bit when he sees my hand holding the leash and the large German Shepherd on top of me. She always does DPT in the car. He finds his way back to the Bunker and carries me inside, happy his plan worked. Sam quietly instructs Amy inside and to my room, and I sleep for a solid 8 hours.
