I'm sitting at the table in the Bunker, going through books and seeing if I can find anything useful. Sam is sitting in the chair in front of me, a comfy recliner. He's looking at his laptop for what I thought was information. Sam looks over to me and asks, "How's it going over there?" I say, "Same," and return to my book. Sam nods and looks back at his laptop. I look up at him and ask, "And you? Anything?" He answers, "Yeah, I-I think so." I get excited and ask, "Yeah? On Amara, Lucifer, Hand of God?" Sam says, "No, no, its a- - its a case. Werewolves looks like." He gestures to his laptop and continues telling me about the case. "Um, a pattern of missing campers- - five in the last three months." I reach out for another book as I say, "So they got lost." Sam corrects me with, "Well, thats what the rangers thought too, until a couple of days ago, when they found a body- -" I interject Sams speech with, "Let me guess- - minus a heart." Sam concludes, "Yeah. Now, they're calling it animal attack but..." I am more concerned with the matters at hand then a case. "All right. We make a call, and we put somebody on it." Sam dejectedly says, "Yeah, but..." and sighs. He shuts his laptop and focuses fully on me. "We'll get him back," Sam tells me, referring to Cas. I meet Sam's gaze and ask, "How?" Sam acknowledges he doesn't know but well figure it out. He continues with, "Meantime, we got to get out of here. Clear our heads. I mean, this is a case. Lets do what we do. L- let's work it." I feel bad and agree.
We head to the area and after finding a motel, go to the bar. Sam says, "Alright, look...we know we're in the right place. We've tried all the big landmarks outside of the park- - the police station, the - - the - - The fleabag motel we're staying in, this bar." I take in his informational summary of the places we've been regarding this case. And say, "Yeah, well, we're running out of things to interrogate, unless you want to go outside, start talking to trees." That gets me an angry glance as I throw back my pint of beer. I finish off what little is left in one big swig. I put my glass back down, and Sam says, "Alright, lets call it a night." I clear my throat, and say "right" back to him. I tell my bartender to grab the check so we can pay and leave. Sam straightens up his papers and suggests, "You know, we can go to park services in the morning, and talk to the rangers." Our bartender comes back and hands me the check and says, "You know what I was thinking? You boys should check out one of the easement cabins. It's private property within the park. It's just held onto for tax purposes, so campers stumble on them and they can hole up in there for weeks." Sam looks at me with a look of "we're so doing that." The bartender continues, "Some of your missing could be in one of them." Sam quickly shows her his map of the area, and asks her, "Do you mind, um, showing us about where they are?" She looks at the map and says, "Oh yeah, sure. Right about there." She points to a specific spot on the map. Sam takes it back and says professionally, "Well, that is a big help. That's great. Thank you." The bartender nods at Sam and says, "No problem." I pay for our beverages and thank her once again. Sam and I exit the bar and head back to The Impala.
Instead of going back to the motel, we go to the woods to scope out the area. Sam looks at his map as I'm driving and says, "Alright, so I think if we head that way, should be about a four mile trek to the cabin." By this time, I've pulled over and we're both at the trunk gathering the supplies we will need. Sam stops looking at the map and says, "You know, we always talk about taking a break, going camping. This could be fun." I just look at him, and ask, "Yeah, which part? Hmmm? Freezing our nuts off in the middle of the middle of the woods on a thin lead?" Sam nods and says, "Yeah that part," while chuckling. When I don't laugh back, he says, "Oh, come on." I throw the bag of supplies I've packed on my back and slam the trunk. "Okay," I sigh as we get a move on.
When we arrive at the cabin, we're instantly thrown into a fight because there's werewolves guarding their prisoners. Sam gets thrown to the ground and raises his gun to shoot the attacker. The werewolf catches on and kicks his gun out of his hand. I see none of this happening because I'm also fighting for my life. Meanwhile, Sam's werewolf goes to step on him with a large combat boot, but Sam grabs his foot. Sam jumps back to his feet and draws his demon knife. Sam kicks the hell out of his attacker, and I crash mine thru a glass cabinet. Sam punches the man again, and throws him forcefully to the ground. The werewolf springs back to his feet, and Sam head butts it. I finally drop mine and Sam stabs his. The werewolf I was fighting grabs Sam's gun and aims. I pick up my knife and look, but before I can do anything, I hear the shot ring out. It all happens in a flash, the shot, Sam gushing blood and falling to the ground. I stab the one who shot my brother, and make damn sure he dies. Sam is holding his stomach to try to stop the bleeding. I hear the man ask, "Baby, you still with me?" I am solely focused on Sam as I grab the first aid kit out of my bag and rush over to him. He says, "Hey, Dean, they, uh...." And I look at them and say, "Okay, just hold tight you two, okay?" I return my attention to Sam and acquire the forceps I need. I tell Sam, "Alright, listen, we got to get that bullet out of there, okay?" All Sam can do is grunt in response. I shake my head, "This is gonna hurt like hell." I flick my lighter and burn the edges to sterilize them. I then grab a wad of rolled up gauze and stick in Sam's mouth. "Here, might need that." Sam grunts again and I say, "Okay, Okay." I attempt to extract the bullet while telling Sam, "Alright. Almost got it. Almost got it." I make a pained face and say, "Right there. Come on, come on! Okay, there we go. There we go." I show him the bullet and say, "Look at that, huh? Hey!" Sam spits out the gauze roll. I look at that bullet and say, "Well, you know what? We got to keep that one." I put it in my other hand and say, "That's gonna be a memento." I shove it in my pocket and zip it up while saying, "We'll laugh about it some other time." The man who's chained to the rafter says, "Guys? She ain't doing so good." I give Sam gauze and he says, "I've got it." I leave my brother to go unchain the two hostages. The man says, "The one he killed, he's got the key." I run over to get the key while saying, "Good. Okay." Sam's hands are shaking as he keeps applying pressure to the wound. The woman asks in a weak voice, "What were they?" I answer, "Werewolves." While still searching for the key. She turns to her assumed boyfriend and says, "Told you they were monsters." He nods, "That's right, baby. You called it." I finally find the damn key, and unlock his handcuffs. The girl speaks, "I thought werewolves needed nighttime, a full moon?" Sam gets the medical tape out of the box and starts to unravel it. The woman says, "We've been here for days. These guys, they can change anytime." Her husband holds her as i work on getting her uncuffed. I say, "Yeah, that's cause they were probably pure bloods. And they can change any time. Any time they want." Sam works on taping the gauze to his stomach. While I tell the girl, "Those wrists- - - those wrists are infected. We got to get something on them, okay?" The man answers with, "Okay" as he helps his wife to the stairs.
I run back to Sam, "How we doing, huh?" I ask him, "You good, you good?" Sam pants and doesn't answer. I say, "Alright, keep pressure on it. Keep pressure." The woman's husband finds a blanket and wraps it around her. I hand him some gauze and say, "Here you go. Wrap those up." He does as I tell him to and then I have an idea. "Is there a landline in here?" I ask because if there's a signal, I'm calling an ambulance for Sammy. The man asks, "You don't have a cellphone?" I answer honestly, "There's no service for miles. I had a signal back at the car a couple miles back." I turn back to Sam, "Okay, listen to me. I'm gonna go for a signal, okay? We're gonna get you to a real doctor. You're gonna be just fine." Sam looks at me and says, "Yeah, no, I know" breathlessly. I say, "Okay" as I get up. The woman's husband says to her, "You and me, hitching the national parks. Best honeymoon ever, right?" She says, "Are you okay? I thought yesterday..." The husband reassures her, "Just a couple scratches." He then looks at me and yells, "Hey! We're coming!" I grab my bag and say, "No, no, no, no, no." He helps her up and says, "Oh no, we can't stay here, not with the others still out there." Sam is clutching his stomach as he looks up at me and asks, "Others?" I tell them, "Okay, listen. My brothers been shot. He can't stay here alone." Sam gets up very painfully while saying, "Yeah I'm fine." I run over to him, "Sam, hey," and help him up. Sam is stubborn and says, "I'm fine." I say, "Hey, hey, hey. Let me help. Yeah, right here." He hands me his gun and puts his arm across my shoulder. "Okay, guess we're going. Let's go. Go." It's taking a lot to keep my brother on his feet, but I refuse to let him die out here. Sam and I and the couple leave the cabin and start walking through the woods. Sam is walking on his own somehow, as I say to them all, "The sun's gonna be up soon." All of a sudden, Sam doubles over in amazing pain, and I touch his shoulder. "Hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Come on." Sam says, "Okay" then grunts out an "owww." He tried to make light of our terrible situation by saying, "I told you that roadhouse chili was a bad idea." He winces in pain and draws a breath. I rub his back and say, "Yeah." The husband turns to us, "Guys, over here." He points out a cabin in a relatively not far away place. Sam whispers loudly, "Hey, look at that."
We make it to the cabin and after I scout the place with my flashlight, I say, "Okay." I tell everyone, "Alright, see if you can find a radio or phone." Sam clutches his stomach again, and groans. I run over and grab the phone. Sam asks, "Anything?" I slam the receiver, "No, it's dead." Sam grunts again and clutches his stomach. I rummage through the cabinets and find two lanterns. I place them on the counter, and say, "I got matches over here. I'm gonna light those up." I flick my lighter and light up the two lanterns. Sam leans over and grabs one lantern with a bloody hand. I grab the other one and go rummage through my duffel bag. The husband yells at me, "Hey, we got to keep moving." He looks over at Sam and says, "Those who- - - who can." I look up at the man, pissed. "What did you say?" The man says, "Michelle's really sick, but she's got a chance. Him- - he's slowing us down. And if they find us- -" I interject, "We saved you, okay? We saved both of you." He says, "It's three lives versus one." My anger is kindled and I shove the man backwards forcefully. He says, "Hey, whoa, whoa." Sam yells best he can, "Dean! Stop!" He says, "He's right. You guys need to- - to go. Move. Go find help, come back for me." I scream, "No! Sam! No! I'm gonna go outside, I'm gonna find some wood, gonna build you a litter, and we are going to CARRY him the rest of the way!" I scan the people around me. "It's only a couple of miles." I go out the door and find wood. I gather all the wood I need. I beat the hell out of the tree with a large stick just out of pure rage. I yell, "Get off me!" and breathe deeply. Trying to calm myself down enough to continue gathering wood and actually being of some help. I get the wood, and say, "Okay, okay, okay."
Meanwhile, Sam is laying up against the cabinet. Sam says, "Guys? Go find Dean. Get out of here. Hey, please. Go. You got to go." The guy comes up to Sam and says, "He won't leave you." The guy then chokes Sam until he can't breathe and passes out.
I return to the cabin, and see Sam unresponsive on the ground. I walk over to him, and ask, "Sam?" I touch him and say, "Sammy?" I check his pulse, and realize he doesn't have one I can feel. I look up, "What happened?" The guy panics and says, "I don't know. He just went." I stare back at Sam, and say, "No." I lightly shake Sam and say, "Sammy? Sammy." The couple looks at the window, and Michelle says, "No, no, no." The guy grabs her and hugs her tight. "Its them." I don't really care about living if Sam is dead, and I pull out his demon knife. I drop to my knees and say, "Let em come." The man looks at me with terrified eyes, "What? No." The woman says. The man says, "He wants to stay," as hes looking at me. She says, "No, you cant!" The man runs over to me, and says, "Hey, hey, you stay, you fight, you die. And so do we." He looks at Sam and says, "Look...he's gone." I look up at the guy with tears in my eyes as he says, "I'm sorry. But he's gone. Help us. Please."
I look back at the man, and then to the woman. I look down at Sam and say, "I'm gonna come back for you, okay? I promise. I promise. Okay?" I hit Sam lovingly and say, "Let's go" as I look back and shed tears. We exit the cabin and start walking. Unbeknownst to us, we're being followed in a pickup. We travel as I try to get a signal on my phone. The woman asks, "Hey, what happened back there?" to her husband. My phone beeps, which means no service. The man answers with, "I did what I had to do." I hear none of this conversation and see activity up ahead and try to flag down the car. A sheriffs van pulls up after I flag down that car and wave my hands. I go back and wave my hands. I go back and get the couple to the sheriff. The sheriff gets out, and asks, "What did you all get into?" I don't answer. I say, "She needs medical attention right away." The sheriff says, "Hey, hold up." I answer, "No. No. Just take care of them. I got to get back to my car, back to my brother." The sheriff puts his hand out and says, "Hey, first everyone is gonna settle down and tell me what the hell is going on." I simply say, "Officer, i don't have time." I turn to leave, and the officer runs me down and grabs me by the shoulder. "You'll make time." I deck the officer and run, but feel electricity jolt through me.
I wake up in the hospital, and a doctor talks to me. I try to get up, but the doctor pushes me back down lightly and tells me to get some rest. I look over to see the man and woman talking about the incident. The sheriff says he'll get rangers to check out the cabin.
I sit up, and see Michelle standing in the doorway. "Hi," she tells me. I answer back, "hey," and she comes to talk to me. She asks me how I'm doing and apologizes about Sam. I quickly run to the storage room and look for pills. I see what I want, and grab an oxygen tank to smash the cabinet wall open with. "I need to talk to, uh, well, i wouldn't call it a friend. More like a scary, crazy death machine." Michelle looks at me with extreme concern. I continue, "Werewolves aren't the only monsters out there." I brake the lock with the oxygen tank and start scanning for what I need. She asks, "How exactly do you talk to an evil, scary death machine?" I answer, "Easy. i die." She tearfully asks, "What?" I say, "Look, if you don't...if you want to leave, i get it. But if you wanna help me...I'm looking for pretty much anything with "barbitol" in the name." She asks, "This will work?" I say, "It has to."
Meanwhile, Sam wakes up and starts coughing.
I get the drugs I need, and say, "Okay. After I do this, go get the doc and tell her to, um...tell her to bring me back, if she can. If not...no hard feelings, okay?" She shakes her head, and tells me, "You don't have to do this." I sadly say, "Yeah, I do." I take the handful of pills and drink some pedialtye behind them.
Meanwhile, Sam is hauling himself up to his feet. He yells, "Dean!" and almost falls back to the ground. He hears a car pulling up and trudges over to the window.
Michelle asks me, "How do you feel?"
Meanwhile, Sam is making his way shakily down the stairs to the basement and hits the wall. I fall to the ground, and hear Michelle yell, "Dean!" She runs to get the doctor and I'm left on the ground. She went for the doctor and I see my body.
Meanwhile, Sam hears somebody bust in the door. Sam stays in the basement and tries to keep quiet. I tell them to roll me on my back, but they can't hear me. As I'm watching this, it suddenly stops. Billie shows up and steps out of a portal. I turn to her and say, "Well, it took you long enough." Billie says, "Dean Winchester." I gesture to my body and ask her, "What's with the freeze frame?" She says in a hauty tone, "Just savoring this. Though I have to say of all the ways I thought you'd go- - heart attack, some fang, choking on a burger while watching Charles in Charge...." I interject with, "Well, that was peak Baio." Billie concludes, "Point is, never took you for the suicide type. Doesn't fit your whole martyr thing. So...sup?" I get right to the point and say, "We need to talk about Sam." She asks, "What about Sam?" I say, "I need him back." She looks confused, "Back?" I say, "Stop playing. Look, you've got him. Let's make a deal." Billie turns away and says, "Pass" rather rudely. "Really? Just like that?" She starts walking back to her portal and says, "Just like that" in a bitchy tone. I become less friendly as I say, "You know, the Darkness is out there...and the world is gonna burn. And once she gets started, that's the end of everything, including you. Now Sam's the only one who can stop it." Billie says, "Hmm, how's that? That's what I thought. It's cute, though. You pretending you're trying to save Sam for the greater good, when we both know you're doing it for you. You can't lose him. But even if Sammy could win the title bout...the answer would still be no. The answer will always be no. Game's over, Dean. No more second chances. No more extra lives." I say, "I'm asking you...I'm begging you, please. Bring him back. Take me instead." Billie says, "I'm not here to bargain with you, kid. I'm here to reap you. And the kicker is...Sam's not dead. But you are. Or will be, soon enough..." She snaps her fingers to unfreeze time. She tells me to come with her, it's time. The doctor stabs me in the chest with something and brings me back. I gasp for breath and throw up foam.
Meanwhile, the guy finds Sam's blood and dips his fingers in it. He then walks around the basement, and Sam stabs the werewolf. He then kills the girl the wolf is with and grabs the Impala's keys.
I am helped up by a doctor and Michelle. I say, "He's alive." Michelle says, "Oh, thank God." I say, "Yeah, not so much. I need a, i need a car." The sheriff refuses, and I say, "I'm not asking." He tries to arrest me, and tells the doctor to sedate me. She says, "No." The sheriff asks for a word outside with her.
Meanwhile, Sam takes the pickup and drives it to the Impala. He then finds his phone in the Impala and calls me. I walk out of the hospital and hear my phone ring. I check the caller ID and see that it's Sam. I answer, "Sammy?" Sam says, "Dean, yeah." I sigh, "Oh God. I- - what happened?" Sam asks, "Where are you?" I look up at the sign and say, "I'm, uh, at the urgent care on 54." Sam asks, "Is Cor- -" and that's all I hear. The static on the other line tells me it's lost signal. I say, "Sammy? Sam?" I hang up because I can't hear him.
Meanwhile, Sam drives the Impala to my location. I watch Corbin turn into a werewolf and murder the sheriff. Then, i tackle him to the ground. I tell Michelle to run and she does. I get thrown across the room and struggle against him. Sam shoots Corbin in the back and kills him instantly. I say, "It took you long enough." Sam grunts and falls to the ground. I go over and sit with Michelle, after I go see my brother. "How you doing?" She avoids the question and asks, "How's your brother?" I say, "The doc says that um...well, when Corbin choked him, um, Sams body went into shock, and his breathing, his heartbeat, slowed down to almost nothing. So he was, uh- - he was just mostly dead. But he'll be okay." She says, "Must be nice. That wasn't...Corbin wasn't a killer." I answer, "I know." She says, "He did it for me." I calmly say, "Michelle, this is gonna be very hard. But you will be okay. And eventually...eventually you'll get back to normal." She sighs, "No, i won't. They said I could leave...an hour ago. But...where am I even supposed to go? After everything we survived together...I watched the man I love die. Theres no normal after that."
Sam and I leave the hospital, when he's allowed to. "So, that's it, huh? Two quarts of O-neg, were good to go?" I help Sam down the stairs, and he asks, "How is she?" I answer, "She's strong. She'll be alright. Those stitches gonna hold?" Sam says, "Oh, yeah. Professional grade. Couple days of antibiotics, some bed rest, and I'm uh, back to normal." Once we were in the car, Sam asks, "So, what did you do? When you thought I was dead? What did you do?" I lie, "Thought about redecorating your room, you know, putting in a jacuzzi, a nice disco ball- - really class up the joint." Sam says, "Right. Seriously." I say, "What, I, uh...i knew you weren't dead." Sam answers, "Right." I reassure him, "I knew." I fire up my Baby's engine and we drive back to the Bunker so Sam can rest and recover.
