Scarlett Jensen.

The sun outside peeked at me as the rays tickled my eyelids. The dreamland slowly bade farewell, and I opened my sea blue eyes. It took me a few seconds to adjust to the brightness. With a little enthusiasm, I checked my clock and frowned since it was already 8:30 in the morning.

There was no use to deny I needed to get up. My first steps took me to the bathroom to wash the sleepiness off my face and tame my dragon nest. It always baffled me how our comb won this battle every morning.

Once I was done, I headed down to the kitchen in my pajamas. Any leftover thoughts about the bed drove away by the unmistakable smell of morning coffee.

I hugged my mother and gave her one of my morning smiles and then picked up my mug of coffee. Opening the fridge, I took out the pancake batter with some chocolate syrup. I hummed the tune of the song 'Lost In Japan' by Shawn Mendes. I smiled to myself when my pancakes finally come in a perfect heart shape, I have been trying that for weeks.

"I'll be at the restaurant, call me if you need anything," my mom said, grabbing her breakfast and purse.

"Okay, I'll be waiting for you," I replied.

My life is not very smooth right now, it never was. I had a pretty messed up childhood. That's right, I also had drunk father problems. But my mom, being the superwoman she is got us out of it. But now, she worked ten hours in a restaurant nearby and half days during Sundays and holidays. We share a very special bond and I am really proud to call her as my mother.

I go to hell every day. Yup, that's right, I have to go to school. I tutor weak students after school and they pay me. The weaker they are the more money I earn. Today was a Sunday, which meant that I did not have to face all the confused adolescents and the angry teachers.

After mom comes home from work, she likes to whine about her day and, we usually watch our favorite show FRIENDS or catch up with a movie, horror mostly. So yeah, this is what it's like to be in the life of Scarlett Jensen. This is my story.

I was currently sitting near my desk, reading my psychology textbook, preparing for a surprise test. Our psychology teacher Mr.Smith is a nice guy, told us about the test beforehand. It actually beats the 'surprise' part but oh well.

While I was reading about psycho people who torture and kill people, I heard my main door open. My room is situated right opposite to the main door. So, if you open the door you will see a flight of staircase and the very first room is mine. It makes it very easy for me to hear any noise the main door makes.

I jerked from my bed and got near my bedroom door, again I could hear the main door close. As I have mentioned above my mom and I love to watch horror movies...so, I was always ready for a situation like this.

I took the baseball bat placed right next to the door and opened my room door as carefully I could, I stepped out of the room, ready to beat anyone black and blue coming in the way. I searched the area visible to me very carefully. Nothing, I saw nothing!

So, I proceeded forward. I took very light steps while descending the staircase. After reaching down, I scanned the living room. Nobody there too. I, then heard some commotion in the kitchen. Tightening my grip around the bat, I walked slowly towards the kitchen.

After I reached the kitchen door, I got down and crawled like a baby till I reach the island and then, I got up and I swung my bat, and it inches missed my mom.

Thank God! her reflexes still work great. It was maybe because she worked at a restaurant and had to be alert all the time and had to be swift.
