"Evieh?" Red says quietly.
His short dark brown almost black hair falling in his bright yellow eyes, his red eye makeup neat and pretty, makes his eyes look gorgeous.
He was a handsome guy. Muscular build. Grey wolf ears and tail. Quite tall, he had glasses on his face as he held a book in his hand, slipping them off as he walks into the kitchen, putting both the book and the glasses down on the counter.
He had no shirt on, just baggy pants, walking up behind Evieh, gently resting his hands on her shoulders.
She was staring out the window, wearing just her bra and shorts, tears falling past her cheeks, her whole body covered in scars, her short messy red hair falling in her eyes, her skin pale.
The scars were the worst on her stomach and lower back.
Black and purple marking up her right arm.
A scar from Amy.
Honestly, a miracle it didn't kill her. Amy did. Almost kill her. She was in hospital a while.
It wasn't Amy's fault.
Evieh grabbed her hand.
Tried.
To kill herself.
Without even thinking about what she was doing.
She saw Amy's hand and without thinking twice she just. Grabbed it.
Now she was left with this dark mark up her arm, impossible to remove.
"... Hey... Evieh... What are you thinking about?" Red asks quietly, reassuringly rubbing her arms, hesitantly resting his chin ontop of her head.
"... Red... Am I weak?"
Red stays quiet, staring at Evieh sadly, looking at the window and catching her eye.
"Am I?"
"No, Evieh. You're not weak. Not at all."
"Then why do I feel so powerless?"
They're silent a while, Red looking at her with a sad expression, thinking of what to say.
"After... He did that... After you found me and I came home. After... Dean killed him... I've been constantly thinking I could of left him a few times. But I... I didn't, Red. Why? Why am... I so weak?"
Red gently wraps his arms around her, closing his eyes as he pulls her close, letting her hug him back as she turns slightly.
"Evieh Smith... Evielina Trinity Smith you are the strongest, most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on. You're so strong and independent. You just... Need help sometimes and that's okay. Everyone needs help, just at different times. You need it now... Other don't."
Evieh bit her quivering lip, her eyes teary, the tears beginning to fall past her cheek.
"It's okay to cry, you aren't weak. Crying doesn't make you weak, Evieh..." he sighs "It's a way of releasing all this pain you've indur-"
"I haven't even told you the worst parts."
Red stops, looking at her, before sighing and gently taking hold of her hand, pulling her into the living room, sitting her down onto the couch, giving her a blanket.
He walks into the kitchen and makes some tea, returning and giving her the cup, sitting down on the other side of the couch. Facing her.
"... If you can... Talk to me."
"I lost a baby."
...
Silence.
Red stared at her, not saying a single thing, letting her know that she can talk on, nodding to show he's listening.
"I lost a baby... Oliver he... He shoved me and I stepped back. Layla was right infront of us he was... Yelling awfully at her he hit her I... I-I tried to stop him and he didn't. Stop. I tried to pull him away and... Then..." she wraps the blanket around her tighter, watching as Red takes a sip of his tea.
"He shoved me. I fell... I fell straight down the stairs... He... He blamed Layla, said it was all her fault said... Said she'd never be able to take care of a child herself. That anyone... She does take care of will just die or leave her. Just..." she muffled a cry.
Red winces "That... Poor girl."
"She hasn't slept in four days... Said to me... She doesn't want to lose anyone. She pretends to sleep until everyone is asleep, gets up and works or just. Sits down and waits till morning."
Red sighs sadly.
"He... He traumatised her... Huh?... I know all of your kids suffer from it. Other than Rio for some unknown reason. But you suffered too, Evieh."
Evieh nods slowly, tracing over the scar on her chest, the warm tears dripping from her face onto the blanket.
"He tried to kill Dean. Threw him into the fire pit..."
"He-..." Red looks disgusted, looking away.
"He's scared of fire... And the dark... He won't admit it. He never will. But he's terrified of fire and the dark. I remember reading his letter to Kiro... He could never send them because Oliver would-... Yeah..."
"... What did it say?"
"He was begging for h-help."
And that's what sets her off.
Tears streaming down her face, her hands pulling on her hair as she sobs loudly.
"H-HE WROTE AND WROTE AND DID ALL THESE THINGS BEGGING SOMEONE TO H-HELP HIM AND HE'S O-ONLY BEEN FREED OF THIS-THIS MONSTER THIS YEAR I-I COULD OF DONE SOMETHING I COULD OF SAVED U-US-" she cries into her hands, letting Red take hold of her and pull her close, shushing her lovingly, running his fingers through her short messy red hair, holding her close to his chest, humming quietly.
"Oliver is... He's gone. That freak is gone, you're safe now I know... He's still in here-" he taps his head "I can't help that... But he can't hurt you, Evieh. He's dead... He can't hurt your kids... He's dead. He won't be able to hurt ANYONE."
"Hugo looks just like him, Red I can't... Believe he... He..." she wails "I-It worries m-me I just want-want him safe but he's been a-acting so odd, Red I don't t-think he's okay He-he-he killed a DOG."
Red looks taken aback, his eyes widening "A dog?"
"He killed a dog."
"Jesus-" he sighs "I... I'll have a talk to him. Heh, hey, Darlin' remember when I was a counsellor? Man that was tough times. But it was a good job, maybe once I'm done with all the Bandit work I can... Counsel Hugo?"
Evieh looks at him sadly "I-I don't know what I've done wrong."
"Gods, Evieh... You haven't done anything wrong" he pulls her closer, resting his head ontop of hers "You're the most amazing mother I have ever met. I'm so incredibly proud of the way you have raised your kids... And our Lily." he whispers the last part.
"She doesn't even k-know" she chokes out a sob.
"Heh... I kinda figured. She thinks I'm just a friend of yours. No idea that I'm... Her dad."
"I think you... Should t-tell her."
"She thinks I left her on purpose, Evieh... Do you really think she'd ever speak to me again if I try tell her 'hey I'm your dad' and then not be able to give her the real reason as to why I wasn't there?"
"You... You need to tell her."
Red stares at her a moment, a sad smile on his face "... I will... I just need... To get to know her a bit more. I need to be there for her."
Evieh nods slowly, resting against Red, tears streaming down her face "I miss Lanna so much, Red. She's f-forgiven me but I haven't... Even forgiven m-myself I..."
"... You know none of it was your fault, right? None of it... You didn't leave by your own will. He forced you to leave. You had no choice and you couldn't stay in contact either that... Wasn't your fault."
"I s-still see it as my fault."
"... Evieh..." he says sadly, sighing and hugging her close.
"I love her. I've a-always loved her, Red. I adore her I LOVE her. I-I just wish it didn't hurt so bad. I F-failed her-" she chokes out sobs as she hides her face in the blanket "I wasn't a g-good guard. I wasn't a good F-FRIEND!"
"You're right... You were an amazing guard. And an amazing friend... Evieh this wasn't your fault... You didn't leave him because you were scared. There was no... Other reason. You were scared for your kids lives... You've never.. Even thought about your own. Have you?"
Evieh says nothing as she sobs into his chest.
"I LOVED her so much i-I LOVE her I L-love her smile and her eyes and everything about her she's j-just gorgeous I love her so so much god-"
Red winces and sighs sadly "I know... Evieh."
"I just feel s-so broken..."
"... Is that why you tried to get Amy to kill you?" he whispers.
She just sobs harder "I w-wanted to stop feeling like this, Red."
"I know. Take a nap, Evieh. You need to rest... We can talk in the...?"
He stops and looks down at her.
She's flat out.
Fast asleep against his chest, her eyes shut and hair falling in her face.
Red stares at her a while, a sad smile coming across his face as he pushes her hair behind her ears, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead.
He wraps the blanket around her more, holding her close, like a baby.
"I wish you talked about me in that way."
